The Friendship On The Boys That Fans Can't Help But Support

Among all the blood, bile, and backward takes on heroes in Amazon Prime Video's Emmy-nominated show, "The Boys," every so often, there's a flicker of hope or pure goodness that shines amidst Billy Butcher's (Karl Urban) mission to bring supes to the ground. It's a pleasant surprise, given the various despicable and dark events in showrunner Eric Kripke's much-loved series. Thankfully, there are two characters in the show who provide a particular amount of heart when the carnage kicks off.

Many characters have gained counterparts through the series so far that have yielded both good and terrifying outcomes. If it wasn't Hughie (Jack Quaid) finding Starlight (Erin Moriarty) — hurrah! — it was Homelander (Anthony Starr) hooking up with Stormfront (Aya Cash) — boo! Regardless of these two great couples that have brought some good and very bad to the grand scheme of things, fans believe there's one friendship on the show that they just can't get enough of, and it's a couple that initially couldn't even understand each other.

Frenchie and Kimiko are a growing positive in a world of chaos in The Boys

While they might have been two of the most dangerous members of Butcher's team, Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) and Frenchie (Tomer Kapon) are also the growing heart of this superhero-squashing squad, and a pair fans have warmed to as the show progressed into Season 2. Sparking from a thread that began from Reddit user u/House923 after a rewatch of Season 1 and 2, "The Boys" fan said, "I am loving how the relationship builds between Frenchie and Kimiko. It's really such a subtle, special, positive aspect of such an insane, violent and crazy show."

They weren't alone in backing this good-hearted double act, with u/DarKnight972 adding, "I really like their relationship.. is so wholesome. Frenchie is my favorite character." It's certainly an interesting dynamic within the show, but one that is deviating considerably from the books the show is based on. The only question is if they'll keep it that way.

Frenchie and Kimiko have a very different relationship in the comics

Initially in Garth Ennis and Derrick Robertson's beloved comic book series, The Female was found years before Hughie's recruitment and had since been working as muscle for the Mafia. When the team is reformed, Frenchie acts more like a big brother to The Female, calming her down when she goes wild, ripping people's faces off, or tearing them limb from limb. Considering certain developments in the TV show, there's every chance it could slowly start to follow suit.

As one fan pointed out following the initial post, one bad call that Frenchie made was making a move on Kimiko with an attempted kiss, leading to him getting knocked back in the Season 2. While their bond was liked, u/ghunter120 said even with all the highs; a low was "except how he tried to kiss her. That was not cool on his part."

Factoring this in, could the two stay friends and become more of a brother and sister like their comic book predecessors? It might be the winning ingredient to keep one of the biggest perks in the show becoming an even greater one as the show progresses. Plus, remaining platonic could make them a better tag team than audiences may have expected.
