The Only Adam Sandler Movie With A 0% Score On Rotten Tomatoes
Adam Sandler has been a central figure in Hollywood since the 1990s, known for his specific brand of humor that is charmingly ridiculous and often accompanied with a dash of immaturity. He was a cast member of "Saturday Night Live" in the early-to-mid-'90s, prior to churning out some of his biggest films like "Billy Madison," "Happy Gilmore," and "The Wedding Singer." In more recent years, he's diversified his roles outside of his typical goofy mold in films like "Uncut Gems" and "The Meyerowitz Stories" (via IMDb).
Throughout his career both in front of and behind the camera with Happy Madison Productions, Sandler has projects good and bad. Highlights include films like "Grown Ups" and "The Longest Yard," which were both commercial successes. Other projects, like "That's My Boy" or "Jack and Jill," are better left forgotten.
However, when looking at the long list of films Sandler has been a part of, one stands above the rest for truly being so bad that critics couldn't even take it seriously.
The Ridiculous 6 has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes
The only Adam Sandler film to sink all the way to 0% on Rotten Tomatoes is Netflix's 2015 Western comedy "The Ridiculous 6." The film had an A-list cast, including Sandler, Terry Crews, Jorge Garcia, Rob Schneider, Taylor Lautner, and Will Forte, but there's not much else to say about it that is positive. The film was seen as highly offensive for its depictions of Native Americans, as Sandler's character is an orphan raised by native tribes. Sandler's films, especially during the first half of his career, featured lowbrow humor in a way that arguably wasn't alienating. "The Ridiculous 6," however, was blasted as an unfunny film that relies on lazy racial stereotypes and cruelties that are just off-putting.
At the film's premiere, Sandler commented on the controversy surrounding the making of the film, which allegedly saw several Native American actors walk off the set due to the offensive nature of the project. "I certainly didn't want anyone to be offended, Sandler said, via The Washington Post. That was my goal and that's what I always thought, that once you see the movie we're making ... [you'll realize] it's not trying to be hurtful. We're just trying to show how great [Native Americans] are."
"The Ridiculous 6" does have a 34% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, which isn't a surprise considering it was a hit for Netflix. At the time of its release, Netflix was just beginning to premiere its own original movies. Within this film's first 30 days on Netflix, it became the most-watched movie in the streamer's history at the time (via Newsweek). Thanks to clever marketing and major name recognition, the film was able to attract viewers enough to for them click "play." However, they were unfortunately met with a film that was perceived by many as an unsatisfying waste of time.
