Watch The NSFW Trailer For Gothic Horror The Lodgers

Jump cuts and shock tactics aren't prerequisite to terror. As we learned from movies like The Others and The Witch, sometimes the setting and tone can make a horror movie all the scarier.

Epic Pictures Group released a trailer for The Lodgers and, with the film's gothic themes, it looks to fall into that category. But the trailer also hints that it also has enough creepily compelling special effects and modern horror elements to appeal to fans of movies like The Conjuring.

Directed by Brian O'Malley (Let Us Prey), the film stars Charlotte Vega (The Bookshop, [REC] 3: Genesis) and Bill Milner (X-Men: First Class) as orphaned twins who live in a deteriorating manor in 1920s Ireland. But they aren't alone in the house: they're joined by mysterious entities who control them with three very specific rules. But when a young man falls in love with the sister and attempts to free her, his efforts set off a horrific sequence of events.

The trailer also reveals two faces that should be familiar to fans of Game of Thrones. David Bradley (who played Walder Frey on Thrones) and Eugene Simon (who played Lancel Lannister) co-star. Meanwhile, Millner played the young version of Magneto in X-Men: First Class.

According to Deadline, The Lodgers was filmed almost entirely at Loftus Hall, Ireland's most famous purported haunted house. Legend has it that it's haunted by the ghost of a woman and the devil himself.

The movie will premiere at this month's Toronto International Film Festival before making its way to theaters. Until then, take a look at some of the horror movies that will blow everyone away next year.
