The Best Mother On The Big Bang Theory According To Fans

On CBS' "The Big Bang Theory," audiences have the occasional pleasure of learning about the core four's upbringing when their mothers come to visit. Each woman is drastically different from her respective son, which leads to some hilarious moments.

Mary Cooper (Laurie Metcalf), Sheldon's (Jim Parsons) mother, is a devout Christian from Texas who is well-meaning and nurturing but knows how to put Sheldon in his place when he's arrogant or rude. She holds a special place in her heart for Leonard (Johnny Galecki), whose personality better aligns with hers. Likewise, Leonard's mother, Dr. Beverly Hofstadter (Christine Baranski), a cold and overly analytical neuroscientist and psychiatrist, gets on swimmingly with Sheldon.

Debbie Wolowitz (Carol Ann Susi), Howard's (Simon Helberg) mother, might never be shown on-screen, but she's one of the funniest characters on the show. She's constantly yelling at Howard, who, despite being in his late 20s, is treated like a child. There's also Mrs. Koothrappali (Alice Amter), Raj's (Kunal Nayyar) mother, who wants nothing more than for her son to give her grandchildren.

All the "Big Bang Theory" mothers bring a special charm to the series, but according to fans, one of them stands above the rest.

Fans enjoy Sheldon's mother, Mary Cooper, the best

In a poll on Reddit, fans voted for their favorite mom on "The Big Bang Theory." Out of the total 256 votes cast, Mary Cooper came out victorious with an impressive 136. Debbie Wolowitz came in second with 67 votes, followed by Dr. Beverly Hofstadter with 43 and Mrs. Koothrappali with 10.

Like anyone in this world, Mary has her flaws. But it's her questionable morals and borderline racist comments that make her funny. In Season 7, Episode 18, "The Mommy Observation," when Sheldon spots her with a naked man, she tells her son, "I'm not perfect ... and that man's booty is." Regarding her unintentionally offensive remarks, a prime example takes place in "The Luminous Fish Effect," when she makes chicken for the group. As she's preparing the meal, she asks Raj, who is Indian, if it's "one of the animals that you people think is magic."

However, Mary is ultimately good at heart and despite Sheldon's superiority complex, is always there for him. Redditor u/Ragnarsworld said, "She seems to be the [sic] one of few moms on the show who actually loves her child. Beverly doesn't." Redditor u/King_Kong_The_eleven added, "IMO Mary Cooper is the best one. While I like Mrs. Wolowitz the constant jokes about her get old. I absolutely despise Beverly Hofstadter. She has zero likeable [sic] qualities, she is just too horrid."

Sheldon might not show much appreciation for his mother, but there's much love for Mary Cooper in the fandom.
