From the get-go, it was evident there was some serious chemistry between Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland. In 2016's "Captain America: Civil War," the duo first came together when Tony Stark recruited Peter Parker to Team Iron Man. Just as Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) suggests in "Avengers: Infinity War," Peter serves as somewhat of a ward to Tony for several years until the latter's untimely death.
Peter and Tony form one of the most unique relationships ever seen in the MCU throughout four films together. This is thanks primarily in part due to Downey and Holland's chemistry which radiated off the screen. This kind of chemistry makes improvising all the more natural during filming, and there's one hilarious scene in "Spider-Man: Homecoming," which is definitive proof. Holland revealed in an interview that one of the movie's best moments was all thanks to him and Downey's clever improvisation — but admitted the latter kicked it off. The two played off one another so well that those on set started laughing and decided to keep it in the film.

While doing a press interview for "The Lost City of Z" with Washington, D.C. news station Fox 5 back in 2017, Tom Holland admitted the hug scene from "Spider-Man: Homecoming" was totally improvised. The moment comes when Tony and Peter are sitting in the back of a car. Tony reaches over to open the door, and Peter mistakes this as affection and goes in for a hug. Tony then lets the Web-Slinger know he wasn't coming in for a hug, that he was just getting the door, and the awkwardness just oozes out.
"I just thought it would be funny if I hugged him," Holland remembered when Downey leaned over. "Robert's instincts are so good; he's like, 'Oh, I'm not trying to hug you. I'm just gonna get the door.'" When this first happened, Holland said all the producers in the background started laughing. Holland also noted that the entire backseat scene was improvised and not just the bizarre hug-not-a-hug moment. It's a shame we won't get more from this duo moving forward in the MCU, but that special "Homecoming" scene is definitely one we'll hold onto forever.
