Iron Man And Star-Lord Are Like 'Spontaneous Combustion' In Avengers: Infinity War

Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) are going to have an explosive relationship in Avengers: Infinity War, according to their co-star Dave Bautista. Bautista, who plays Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, said in a recent interview with Yahoo! Movies that Downey Jr. and Pratt were like a "spontaneous combustion" when they acted together on the set of the upcoming team-up flick.

Bautista said that he did film some interaction between Drax and Tony Stark, although he's unsure if it will make it into the final cut. While he says that there was "good interaction" between the two characters, it was Peter and Tony's interactions that he particularly spotlighted. "Talk about two talented guys who are so witty and smart and honed-in on their craft," Bautista said of the two actors. "It was a spectacle, and I'm so excited I got to witness it firsthand."

Bautista teased that Drax will have a lot of interactions in the movie with Star-Lord and with Pom Klementieff's Mantis, who he developed a father-daughter relationship with in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. "It's always great when they let me play the straight man to Chris's humor," Bautista said of Drax's role in the film. "When we said something funny, [directors Joe and Anthony Russo] would come in after the take and go, 'What was that you said? Say that again!' They were really excited about it."

Although some may be nervous to see the Guardians out of the hands of writer-director James Gunn, Bautista assured that the Russos were fully on board with what Gunn wanted for the characters. "I think one of the reasons we were so successful to begin with is because of James's creativity," he said. "We had the luxury of him writing for us on Infinity War, and the Russos didn't at all try to make us into something we weren't. They encouraged us to own our characters and be the Guardians of the Galaxy, not their Guardians of the Galaxy."

Drax, Iron Man, and Star-Lord are just a few of the many, many Marvel characters who are set to appear in the upcoming team-up films, with star Scarlett Johansson teasing that one scene in Infinity War features over 30 characters at once. The superheroes will all team up to fight against Thanos (Josh Brolin) and his villainous lieutenants the Black Order. The movie's epic scale is pushing it towards becoming one of the longest, if not the longest, film in the MCU to date, so there should be lots of room for the characters to share barbs with amidst all the fighting.

Avengers: Infinity War is set for a May 4, 2018 release.
