The Weapon That Walking Dead Fans Think Is The Best For The Apocalypse
Any longtime fan of AMC's drama series "The Walking Dead" will know that to survive in the zombie apocalypse, most people need a good supply of weapons — especially since they usually find themselves forced to kill other survivors just as frequently as the undead.
In total, the options available to the survivors in "The Walking Dead" may not be quite as robust as those available in something like the "Zombieland" film franchise. However, over the course of the last 12 seasons, we've seen characters like Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) utilize a wide variety of different weapons in order to dispatch the undead.
Some of the more iconic weapons in the long-running series include Daryl's famous crossbow and Rick's legendary Colt Python. Of course, while these are fairly conventional weapons, there a number that are more creative. For example, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is known to favor a barbed wire-covered baseball bat, which he affectionately refers to as "Lucille."
Each of these weapons serve as a nearly inseparable part of the characters who wield them. Based on their use throughout the series, we have no doubt that each weapon would be incredibly useful if one were to find themselves in the midst of a zombie battle. However, according to fans, there is one special weapon in "The Walking Dead" that rises above all else.
Fans agree that Michonne's katana is the best weapon in the whole series
A Reddit poll conducted by u/InternationalBite950 confirmed that "The Walking Dead" fans consider the katana wielded by Michonne (Danai Gurira) to be the best weapon in the entire series. Of the 419 Reddit users who participated in the poll, 135 people voted for Michonne's katana, a number which comfortably edged out Rick's Colt Python for top honors.
Although Rick's famous handgun earned a total of 101 votes, it ultimately fell well short of Michonne's weapon of choice. Interestingly, more than one Reddit user noted that the choice between these two weapons was a difficult one. U/Bermanator-Turkey127 said, "Tough between Rick and Michonne, but I'll go with Rick." Meanwhile, u/SnowLikeAshes let out their frustrations by commenting, "Darn you cruel one option vote!"
At first glance, it's easy to see the appeal of the katana over the other weapons we've seen in "The Walking Dead." It doesn't require ammunition like a crossbow or pistol, and whereas a baseball bat will certainly do some damage to a zombie's skull, Michonne is seen frequently dispatching dozens of zombies at a time with relative ease by simply slicing off their heads. It also seems like the katana itself has an incredibly long lifespan — never dulling despite the fact that it's been used to kill hundreds upon hundreds of zombies over the years.
The aforementioned poll makes it clear that Michonne's katana is easily the most beloved weapon in the entire series. One has to hope that if Michonne returns in one of the upcoming "Walking Dead" spin-off projects, she'll have her iconic sword by her side once more.
