This Is The Best-Selling PS2 Game Of All Time

The PlayStation 2 has a special place in the hearts of many gamers, and for good reason. It's the best-selling console of all time, and though it released back in March 2000, it stands as a timeless success. When the century turned, gamers were pleased by the system's backwards compatibility, DVD player functionality, and the game-changing DualShock 2 controller.

The console's influence extends beyond Sony. The PlayStation 2 played a pivotal role in the creation of the Xbox, not to mention multiple generations of PlayStations to follow. Of course, what really makes the PS2 an enduring hit is its library of fantastic games. From hidden gems like "Odin Sphere" and "The Thing" to mainstream classics such as the "Final Fantasy" and "Gran Turismo" franchises, there are a ton of PS2 games that stand out today. Many are also available on PS4. Out of all of the iconic titles created for the classic console, one rises above the rest as the best-selling PS2 game of all time.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the best-selling game on the best-selling console

According to Guinness World Records, "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" is the best-selling PS2 game with over 20 million units sold as of 2015. The "GTA" series needs no introduction, as its reputation for fast cars and wild worlds full of extralegal missions is well-known. Considered one of the best "GTA" games of all time, "San Andreas" tells the story of CJ, a man who returns to Los Santos following his mother's murder. He finds his hometown on the brink of ruin and is pushed to his limits when law enforcement frames him for a crime he did not commit.

"San Andreas" boasts a 95/100 score on Metacritic for PC, which is about as good as it gets. The hype hasn't stopped since the title released in 2004. In 2021, Rockstar launched "Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition," which includes a remastered version of "San Andreas." Though the Trilogy got off to a rocky start thanks to numerous bugs, players still cherish the original and even ponder some of its unsolved mysteries to this day.
