What Happened To Alyson Hannigan After How I Met Your Mother

Not that long ago, Alyson Hannigan made three big splashes on the pop culture landscape in rapid succession. First, she was the nerdy witch Willow Rosenberg in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" during the show's seven-season run on The WB. She was the adventurous Michelle Flaherty in the "American Pie" series of films. And she was Lily Aldrin, cheery teacher and wannabe artist in CBS' blockbuster sitcom "How I Met Your Mother."

Fans rooted for Hannigan's Lily as she entered into marriage with her college sweetheart Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel), switched occupations, and became a mother of three over the course of nine flashback-filled seasons. When Marshall and Lily broke up during the show's second season, fans mourned alongside Lily, and when she finally got to live her dream and go to Italy to serve as The Captain's (Kyle MacLachlan) art consultant with her family, they cheered. Lily also developed a strong friendship with Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders) which stood the test of many a trial and tribulation.

But what has Hannigan been up to since "How I Met Your Mother" wrapped in 2014? Here's what we know about her post-Lily projects.

Alyson Hannigan has become an accomplished voice actress

Since 2014, Alyson Hannigan has stayed busy with various guest spots, voice acting roles, and television movie parts. Per IMDb, she has taken on roles for both children's programs and adult-orientated fare. She played Winter in a 2014 episode of The Disney Channel's "Sophia the First" and lent her voice to Adult Swim's "Robot Chicken" multiple times. The latter series was co-created by her "Buffy" co-star Seth Green, who played Daniel "Oz" Osbourne, Willow's former boyfriend. Most importantly, Hannigan has voiced series regular Claire Clancy in 57 episodes of the Disney Junior animated series "Fancy Nancy."

Per a 2018 interview with Paste Magazine, Hannigan became interested in doing voice work for the show after her oldest daughter became devoted to the series. When she heard that the book series was set to become an animated program and was casting for voice talent, "I immediately called my agent and was like, "I want to—I'll be the dog! I just want to be a part of this project!" While she didn't land the role of Frenchy, she definitely developed an affinity for voiceover work.  "My whole life, I've always wanted to do cartoons, and I don't think I was actually really good at it until I became a mother," she told the magazine, explaining that it taught her a whole different kind of acting.

But she definitely hasn't given up on live-action roles

While Hannigan has added her talents to many animated programs and films since "How I Met Your Mother" wrapped, she definitely hasn't quit working for live-action productions. She's showed up twice in the CBC drama "Pure," which focuses on drug trafficking in a Canadian Mennonite community. Hannigan was also Dr. Ann Possible, mother of famous super-agent Kim, in Disney's 2019 live-action TV movie version of their animated hit "Kim Possible." She's appeared in multiple TV movies and independent features over the past several years, including the romantic drama "Do You Take This Man?," the horror-comedy film "You Might be the Killer" and Lifetime's "Abducted: The Mary Stauffer Story."

Hannigan's most recent project has kept her firmly underneath the Disney umbrella, with one exception. She appeared in the Disney + Original Film "Flora & Ulysses" in 2019 and hosted the Food Network program "Outrageous Pumpkins" in 2021.

Her family life is just as interesting as her onscreen roles

In real life, the actress also has her hands full. Per People Magazine, she has two children, Satyana and Keeva, with her husband Alexis Denisof. The family's home was used as a shooting location for the sixth season of the hit NBC drama "This is Us" in 2021 (via Entertainment Weekly), and it is such a popular architectural wonderment that Denisof and Hannigan have turned down multiple film crews who have requested to shoot there.

Via an October 2021 interview conducted with the actress on "The Michelle Collins Show" (as quoted by EW), Denisof and Hannigan had decided not to rent the house out at all when they bought it, but "It turned out, our neighbor was the director, and we were like, 'If we are ever going to do it, we would do it for that show because it's so good [...] long-running shows, the crews are always very respectful.'" It turned out that the crew was so respectful of the family's property that they even repaired damage to the house that the actress herself had been responsible for.
