Kingsman: The Golden Circle Gets A New Eclipse-Themed Promo
In case you haven't heard, there's going to be a total solar eclipse across parts of the United States on Monday, a natural phenomenon that many have billed as a once in a lifetime event. A new marketing campaign from Kingsman: The Golden Circle, though, implies that there may be something a bit more sinister behind the eclipse, with a video attributing the event to Julianne Moore's villainous Poppy.
Poppy, described by director Matthew Vaughn as "America's sweetheart gone wrong," destroys the Kingsman's headquarters at the start of the upcoming sequel, forcing Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Merlin (Mark Strong) to flee to the United States. In their quest to find answers about who is targeting them, they come across their American counterparts, the Statesmen, who include the likes of Jeff Bridges, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, and Halle Berry.
The newest clip from the film repurposes the scene already shown in previous trailers in which Poppy presses a button to send missiles to destroy the Kingsman's headquarters, now suggesting that she's pressing it to begin the eclipse. While the marketing campaign is a cute way to capitalize on a hugely discussed event, the clip also offers some tantalizing hints to the upcoming film.
These mostly include some new hints about what, exactly, the movie's subtitle "The Golden Circle" means. "Someone's planning something major," Eggsy says at the start of the clip. "The name 'The Golden Circle' keeps coming up." "Fingerprints removed, teeth filed smooth, a tattoo made of 24-karat gold," continues Sophie Cookson's Roxy. "Time is running out," Poppy can be heard saying at the end of the clip. In another clip, which you can view at the bottom of this article, Poppy says, "Today marks the beginning of a new age," as concerned onlookers stare at the sky.
While these aren't solid clues as to what will be going down in the movie, they do offer our best information yet on the Golden Circle and imply that it is connected to Poppy and her plan. (Which we know, from the trailers, involves at least in part drones headed towards New York City carrying an ominous-looking serum.)
We'll know Poppy's plan in full when Kingsman: The Golden Circle hits theaters on Sept. 22. The movie is directed by Vaughn based on a script he co-wrote with Jane Goldman; Colin Firth, Elton John, VInnie Jones, and Michael Gambon also star.
