Bridgerton's Luke Newton Confirms What We Suspected About Penelope And Colin's Relationship

The long-awaited "Bridgerton" Season 2 is finally here, and with it comes more drama from the titular family. Just like the Julia Quinn books the series is based on, each season of the Netflix series focuses on the romantic exploits of a single Bridgerton sibling. While last season explored Daphne's (Phoebe Dynevor) steamy relationship with the Duke (Regé-Jean Page), Season 2 dives into the eldest Bridgerton brother, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), and his marriage prospects. As the viscount, Anthony hopes to secure the best wife to continue the Bridgerton family name. He chooses to pursue the season's so-called "diamond," Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran). However, Anthony must first win over Edwina's protective older sister, Kate (Simone Ashley), which proves to be quite the challenge.

In addition to Anthony's marriage prospects, Season 2 sees drama elsewhere in the Ton. Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie) is entering society, despite her protests, plus the Featheringtons are grappling with their financial situation after the death of Lord Featherington (Ben Miller). We also get to see Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) tiptoe around her relationship with Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). And according to Newton himself, Colin and Penelope are very close indeed.

Luke Newton confirms that Colin and Penelope share something special

Contains spoilers for Season 2 of "Bridgerton"

Anyone who has seen "Bridgerton" can see the obvious chemistry between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton. The two are constantly writing back and forth, even when Colin is abroad, and they often share engaging conversations. While Colin doesn't yet realize what his and Penelope's relationship is, the actor behind Colin, Luke Newton, knows the two share something special. When speaking with Today, Newton said, "She gives him a sense of that warm feeling that reminds him of home." He added, "When he has a moment alone with Pen, it feels like he's been really himself."

Unlike being with his family, Colin doesn't have to tread lightly with his words to Penelope; he can just be genuine. "They talk about real stuff ... they talk about how they're feeling to each other. As far as Colin's concerned, there's nothing put on," Newton explained. "It's almost like having your own like confession booth. She really is a person he relies on."

The end of "Bridgerton" Season 2 did leave Colin and Penelope in a bit of a sticky situation. While drinking with other men at a party, Colin commented that he never intends to marry Penelope, and of course, she overhears it. But now we can only hope Colin realizes what's in front of him and comes to his senses in the upcoming seasons.
