Loki And Valkyrie Face Off In New Thor: Ragnarok Photo
Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) are not going to get along in Thor: Ragnarok, at least if the newest still from the film is any indication. The picture, released to Entertainment Weekly and viewable at the bottom of this article, shows the two warriors facing off, with Valkyrie holding a knife to Loki's throat.
Thor: Ragnarok will feature the hero (Chris Hemsworth) contending with Loki's lax rule on Asgard during his time masquerading as their missing father Odin (Anthony Hopkins). This leads to the freeing of Cate Blanchett's Hela, who unleashes hell on the planet, destroys Thor's hammer, and banishes him to the desolate planet of Sakaar.
There, he is captured by Valkyrie, who brings him to the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), a nefarious ruler who forces a short-haired version of the character into gladiatorial contests against his former "friend from work" the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Eventually, Thor and the Hulk escape, going on an intergalactic adventure to take down Hela. (They'll also get some help from Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange, in one of the film's few stops on Earth.)
Thompson teased that, at first, Valkyrie sees herself as being more akin to Loki than Thor. However, she soon learns that he's not to be trusted, eventually leading to the face-off. "I just think there's something about two folks that kind of come from the same place in a sense, that have the same chip on their shoulder in a way," she teased. "There's a thin line between how much they hate and love each other."
The actress said that she had "so much fun" shooting Valkyrie's fight with Loki, teasing that the choreography was "very punchy and physical." "I think because Tom's character is involved there's a cheekiness to that fight that made it just really fun– it just felt like a tennis match," she said. "I don't know if it remains but there were a lot of one-liners between us. So it has a real sense of humor."
Thor: Ragnarok, one of many upcoming superhero films that will blow you away, hits theaters on Nov. 3.
