Why Ouran High School Host Club Hasn't Given Us A Second Season

Over a decade ago now, "Ouran High School Host Club" was released and quickly became a fan-favorite. The anime follows Haruhi, who, after accidentally breaking an expensive vase, joins her new high school's host club to pay off her debt. However, due to her short hair, the other students at the school think she is a boy, and this must be kept a secret for her to remain in the host club. The show is full of crazy plot lines and overall hilarity as Haruhi and the crew attempt to protect her identity while finding themselves in a number of shenanigans.

"Ouran High School Host Club" is not just a mere comedy though, as there are more than a few touching and heartwarming moments shared between the characters. On top of that, there is the storyline throughout the show of host club leader Tamaki having a crush on Haruhi. This is probably why the show became so popular and has fans wanting more. So, why has there been no "Ouran High School Host Club" Season 2?

There are no clear answers, but a new season doesn't seem likely

When searching the internet high and low for answers, there doesn't seem to be any real, concrete ones. There is speculation on top of speculation, but no real confirmation on the production or cancellation of a second season to the popular anime. Allegedly, a voice actor for Hikaru, Todd Haberkorn, said that there were plans in the works for a second season, but there is no real evidence. The Bits Newsz wrote about the rumor, saying, "It was being said that in 2016, Todd released a video saying that he was approached by the creative team for 'Ouran High School Host Club' Season 2. However, no definite proof was found of it and neither has a new season shown up yet in 2022."

A possibility as to why there has been no additional season to the show is simply that there was never meant to be one, as it is not usual for anime to only run for 12 or 24 episodes with only one season. Take "Neon Genesis Evangelion" for example. There have been many movies and manga released since the anime, but the original show is only one season long, barely over the 24-episode mark. So, maybe "Ouran High School Host Club" was only ever meant to be one season long. Hopefully, sometime in the near future, the anime gods will give fans a clearer answer.
