The Funniest Episode In What We Do In The Shadows Season 3

Vampires finding their way in a modern world may be a simple premise, but FX's "What We Do in the Shadows" proves that it's a comedy goldmine. As the spiritual successor to the film of the same name, the series uses a mockumentary format to follow four vampire roommates and their human familiar, Guillermo de la Cruz (Harvey Guillén), as they drink peoples' blood, receive spam emails, and hit the casino with their neighbors.

There's a lot to love from the first two seasons, like Laszlo Cravensworth's (Matt Berry) alter ego Jackie Daytona — aka Laszlo with a toothpick and jeans — and Nadja's (Natasia Demetriou) ghost finding a new body as a creepy doll. Season 3 only builds on the first two, giving us some of the series' funniest moments. It's hard to beat Nandor (Kayvan Novak) falling prey to a cult in "The Wellness Center" or his existential crisis at the hands of a "The Big Bang Theory" slot machine in "The Casino," but Season 3, Episode 6, "The Escape," is chock full of perfect gags.

Nothing beats hunting The Sire in a superstore

"What We Do in the Shadows" Season 3's 6th episode capitalizes on the new story element of the season, Nadja and Nandor's appointment to the Vampiric Council as co-leaders, by letting their incompetence create a potentially devastating problem. When they don't feed The Sire, a gargoyle-looking creature who is the origin of all vampires, he escapes. The problem? If he dies, all vampires might die. But while the vampires are freaking out, we're treated to a hilarious series of events.

First, Nandor holds a vampire press conference by chanting into the air to summon the ghostly floating heads of the vampire world's journalists. Then, Laszlo, Colin Robinson, and Guillermo dig up The Baron (Doug Jones) — the super-old vampire who was Guillermo's first vampire kill, back in Season 1. Only, he's not completely dead, he's now just a crispy head and torso with one arm who rides around on the back of their hellhound that's masquerading as a golden retriever. Together, the group corners The Sire is a superstore, where Laszlo accidentally swallows a harmonica, The Baron switches to riding in a remote-controlled pink toy car, and Nandor puts on "armor" — a bicycle helmet on his head, a flamingo pool floatie around his middle, and what looks like a goalie's hockey pads on his legs.

When talking about favorite episodes of the season, Redditor u/theevilgiraffe picked out "The Escape" for The Baron's various modes of transportation, while user u/pg_99 loved Laszlo's harmonica-induced raspy musical voice. u/Clear-Plantain-1381 said it might be the best "What We Do in the Shadows" episode and praised Nadja's expressions upon realizing it's her fault The Sire got out. Plus, it ends with an iconic new roommate trio: The Sire, The Baron, and the hellhound.
