Kathy Bates Won't Be A Part Of American Horror Story: Cult

Kathy Bates will not be scaring up viewers for the next outing of American Horror Story. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress will not be making a return for the upcoming season, subtitled Cult, due to scheduling conflicts with her Netflix comedy Disjointed.

Bates first joined AHS in 2013 as the terrifying Marie Delphine LaLaurie in Coven. She went on to make appearances in Freak Show, Hotel, and, most recently, Roanoke, earning a Golden Globe nomination, two Emmy nominations, and an Emmy win along the way.

While it is definitely still possible that Bates could return to AHS in the future, Disjointed is likely to keep her busy for a while, with the Netflix comedy casting the actress as the owner of a marijuana dispensary. The show, which comes from Two and a Half Men's Chuck Lorre and The Daily Show's David Javerbaum, will premiere its first 20 episodes on Netflix on August 25.

Cult still has its own share of high-profile actors. The season, which is set to find a way to tackle the 2016 presidential election, will bring back series frequents Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, with the pair playing the two halves of what creator Ryan Murphy describes as "a love story for the ages." The series will also see the addition of Teen Wolf's Colton Haynes and Scream Queens' Billie Lourd, with Girls' Lena Dunham set to guest star. Billy Eichner, Cheyenne Jackson, Leslie Grossman, Frances Conroy, Adina Porter, Mare Winningham, and Alison Pill will also appear.

American Horror Story: Cult is set to premiere on Sept. 5. In the meantime, see some of the show's characters who look completely different in real life.
