J.R. Ramirez Joins Jessica Jones Season 2

Arrow actor J.R. Ramirez is moving over to a different superhero show. Entertainment Weekly reports that the star has joined Jessica Jones' upcoming second season as a series regular.

Ramirez will play Oscar, a devoted single father who is the new superintendent for Jessica's (Krysten Ritter) building. His young son becomes obsessed with Jessica and her powers, but Oscar stays far away from her, worried about the trouble that heroes like her can bring.

Ramirez played Ted Grant on The CW's Arrow and has also made appearances on shows like Rosewood, Emily Owens M.D., 90210, House of Payne, and 24. He is currently a regular on Starz's Power. "J.R. is an incredible addition to our cast, bringing complex and subtle emotion and humor," executive producer Melissa Rosenberg said of the actor. "He exudes warmth, edge and intelligence, and blends perfectly with our tone."

Jessica Jones' second season also adds in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse star Leah Gibson as a book-smart and street-wise nurse and two-time Academy Award nominee Janet McTeer in an undisclosed role. Rumor has it that the series is also looking to fill a few other main roles, although it is unclear if Ramirez's Oscar was one of those previously listed parts.

Jessica Jones season two will see Ritter return to the role of the wise-cracking detective, with Mike Colter's Luke Cage, Rachael Taylor's Trish, Carrie-Anne Moss' Jeri Hogarth, Eka Darville's Malcolm, and Wil Traval's Will Simpson all likely providing back-up. (Netflix has yet to confirm which season one cast members will definitely return.) It's also possible that some of Jessica's other fellow Defenders will make an appearance, especially considering that the whole group will team up for their own series later this summer.

Jessica Jones season two is expected to debut in 2018; while we wait, see why Ritter looks so familiar.
