Conan Chop Chop Release Date, Gameplay, And Platforms - What We Know So Far

Much to the surprise of many gamers, the game that started with an April Fool's joke back in 2019 is now a reality. "Conan Chop Chop" has been through quite the odyssey even before its release, though. First confirmed as a real game in June 2019, the rogue-lite title was originally going to drop Sept. 2019 but has since been delayed multiple times.

Taking inspiration from the legacy of Conan the Barbarian, a character who has been around in many different iterations since the 1930s, "Conan Chop Chop" will take players on this historic hero's silliest journey to date. Published by Funcom and developed by Mighty Kingdom, with additional support by Level Infinite, this title has the potential to stand out from the crowd of past Conan-themed games thanks to its winning combination of campy combat, co-op capabilities, and cute, chopping characters.

Here is all the key info players need to know about "Conan Chop Chop" to prepare for its long-awaited release that some thought might never come.

Conan Chop Chop Release Date

According to a PlayStation blog update from Feb. 9, 2022, "Conan Chop Chop" is officially confirmed for a March 1, 2022 release. As Funcom marketing manager Oscar Guardiola Serra explained, the team behind "Conan Chop Chop" apparently "couldn't stop thinking of all the additions that could make the game even better," which led to its multiple delays. Giving a nod to players' skepticism – "if you don't believe us, I can't blame you," – the marketing manager minimized any doubt by mentioning that the media has already "received review copies" of the game.

In addition to the upcoming March release of "Conan Chop Chop," fans on Steam and Nintendo Switch can get a sneak peek at the game with a demo dropping on Feb. 21, 2022. Best of all, this demo is completely free. As for the game itself, that'll cost players $19.99, which is a fairly reasonable price for any game nowadays.

Conan Chop Chop Gameplay

According to the official game website, "Conan Chop Chop" takes 1-4 players on a "party rogue-lite" journey "full of mayhem, loot, and adventure." Players can choose between four characters to take down "evil wizard Thoth-amon," not to mention plenty of other bosses along the way. The four character options include "Pallantides, commander of the Black Dragons...Valeria, the adventurer...Bêlit, the pirate queen...and of course, Conan the Cimmerian Barbarian himself." Players don't have to choose just one – they can level up each character and refine their strategy along the way.

"Conan Chop Chop" will now feature online multiplayer functionality for 1-4 players in addition to its originally promised couch co-op. Players can "party up like it's 9,999 (BCE)" with either solo play, co-op with friends, or random match-ups. Co-op apparently makes the game a lot easier, so players may want to consider giving it a try once they get the basics down.

Loot is the name of the game in "Conan Chop Chop," with "trillions" of unique item combinations available as well as upgrades available through skill trees for all four characters. This vast landscape of options provides a customized experience, and since "Conan Chop Chop" is a rogue-lite, "no two runs are the same." Every death means a permanent upgrade, so every loss means another opportunity to win.

Conan Chop Chop Platforms

Players can get to slicing and dicing with "Conan Chop Chop" available on PC through Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5. While the game might not come with the "12K 360 degree Virtual Virtual Reality" capabilities promised in the original April Fool's trailer, "Conan Chop Chop" is making itself widely available given the wide array of console offerings.

Though there is a big emphasis on the online and couch co-op capabilities coming to "Conan Chop Chop," it was confirmed on Twitter that the game will not offer cross-play between consoles. Though it's unclear how this may affect those on different-gen Xbox and PS consoles, this news means players will have to stick to collaborating with others on their exact same console.

"Conan Chop Chop" is almost here, with the free Switch and Steam demo dropping Feb. 21, 2022, and the full game arriving on all consoles on March 1, 2022.
