Henry Cavill Jokes About His Mission: Impossible 6 Mustache Mayhem

When news began to surface earlier this week that Justice League was reportedly undergoing long and expensive reshoots, many fans understandably began to worry about the film. However, one note in the reports particularly caught fans' attentions and brought some laughs to a confusing time– Henry Cavill, the DCEU's Superman, will still reportedly be rocking his Mission: Impossible 6 mustache during reshoots, with the facial hair getting digitally removed in post-production. Despite the chaos the facial hair has caused, Cavill and his MI6 director Christopher McQuarrie ensure that there is actually a very good reason for the stache.

Cavill grew the facial hair for his upcoming role in the spy thriller, and reports say that Paramount won't let him shave it off while the movie is still in production. With the actor said to be hopping back and forth between MI6 and Justice League, his facial hair is here to stay as Supes, at least behind the camera. (Some fans have imagined what it may actually look like on screen, creating a video of what Batman v. Superman may have looked like if Superman had a stache.)

Cavill shared a joking photo about the mustache on his Instagram, accompanying a pic of an elaborate set with the caption, "It is time to finally set the record straight on the moustache fiasco. Pictured above, is not a set on MI6 but is in fact the latest in a series of weapons being designed by Warner Bros and Paramount Studios to combat the entity know as 'Henry Cavill's Moustache.' There has been no discussion over whether to shave or not to shave for the JL reshoots, simply a relentless campaign to put an end to the seemingly inexorable conquest of this despotic 'stache. It is not a question of IF I should shave– it is a question of how can we possibly be victorious against such a beast without bringing our own doom raining down upon us."

His MI6 director McQuarrie also responded to the mustache mayhem in joking terms, writing on his Twitter, "In exactly one year you'll understand: The only way to keep a fake 'stache on Henry Cavill would be a liberal dose of staples." He then hashtagged his film and included a note with its release date, July 27, 2018.

McQuarrie has yet to reveal who Cavill will be playing in MI6, but he did first share a pic of the star's mustache on his social media page months ago. Producer David Ellison previously revealed that Cavill's character will have a big role to play in the film, saying that they "could not be more excited" for what he brings to the table. McQuarrie also teased that Cavill will get in on the some pretty intense action, saying that the requirements for the role include enjoying "extreme heights, high speeds, motor vehicles of all varieties (especially aircraft), practical stunts, firearms, and sporadic exposition."

As for Justice League, we still don't know what, exactly, Cavill will be doing, although we're going to guess it will in some way undo his "death" at the end of Batman v. Superman. That film, reshoots and mustaches aside, is still set to be released on Nov. 17; for now, see why the finished product will actually be better than you think.
