The Naruto Character Your Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign

Spanning more than 700 episodes, "Naruto" and its popular sequel "Naruto: Shippuden" captivated audiences with natural charm and action-packed story arcs. Following Naruto Uzumaki, the shonen series sets out to tell the story of a young ninja who dreams of one day leading his village as the Hokage — no matter how often he annoys those around him.

Fans came back every week to experience the series' heartfelt writing and great comedic timing. Still, it was really the characters that created a special connection with viewers. The series managed to introduce several memorable characters. Since the show begins while they're children, viewers get to watch them learn, grow, and develop their skills, personalities, and relationships.

Even though the show follows a number of characters, they're all relatively unique and relatable in their own way. From the main protagonists to villains to side characters, "Naruto" gives almost every character their own defining traits. When it comes to many of these characters, it's obvious which of the 12 zodiac signs they relate to the most — even if it's not necessarily canon.

Aries (March 21–April 19): Naruto

When first meeting an Aries sign, you might assume you're interacting with someone volatile and aggressive. The fire sign is known for its impulsive, short-tempered outbursts, but these negative qualities often overshadow the fiery passion and courage that comes along with it. While this balance of characteristics might apply to a number of our favorite ninjas, you better believe that Naruto leads the pack when it comes to typical Aries behavior.

Naruto was destined for greatness from the very beginning, and the series does everything it can to signify that to the audience. Aligning with a typical Aries, he's determined to accomplish his goal of becoming the Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village. But it's not just an aspiration to Naruto; he has the confidence to honestly believe it's going to happen. His unyielding passion and optimism fuel his ability to fight through any obstacle. The high-energy ninja even aligns with some of the more negative traits associated with the fire sign, especially when it comes to impulsivity and impatience. Regardless of how powerful the enemy may be, his willingness to jump into any battle puts him and his team in constant danger.

Canonically, Naruto's birthday is October 10, making him a Libra. But he shares so many traits with an Aries, it's hard to see any other option — although it might just be the fire from his Nine-Tailed Fox.

Taurus (April 20–May 20): Itachi

Compared to the rest of the zodiacs, it's obvious that most ninja teams would want a Taurus on their side. Known for being grounded and practical, the Taurus approaches life with a careful, tactile hand. When it comes to decision-making, they know what they want and stick to it — even if it might not always make sense to others. That's why fan-favorite villain Itachi Uchiha aligns so well with the earth sign.

Itachi lived an unconventional life, to say the least. After murdering his entire clan, except his younger brother Sasuke, the former Anbu captain fled to live the life of an international criminal. He shows the traditional characteristics of a Taurus very early on in his life, excelling in school and quickly shooting up the ranks as a ninja. Still, his Taurus traits don't always help make life easier. In fact, they might be the reason for his life spiraling out of control. The Taurus sign are known to be stubborn and uncompromising, which might explain Itachi's choice to kill his clan and ruin the relationship with his brother.

Born June 9, Itachi is a Gemini in the series. While he may have a number of Gemini traits, it makes way more sense to align him as a Taurus.

Gemini (May 21–June 21): Sakura

When it comes to female characters across the Shonen genre, Sakura is by far one of the most controversial. While she has a dynamic character arc, many hardcore fans simply don't like her. But, just like a Gemini, Sakura is far more misunderstood than fans may realize. Fueled by her passion for learning and her diehard love, Sakura approaches life like a true air sign.

Casual fans of astrology might assume that Gemini are two-faced and untrustworthy. Still, the actual traits of the air sign are far different from its stereotypes. Known to be childish by nature, Gemini signs are the "twins" of the zodiac. While its stereotype isn't accurate, there are two sides to a Gemini: a lighthearted, intelligent side and an insecure, indecisive side. Sakura's character arc saw her battling her own demons alongside actual enemies — but instead of a fox demon, Sakura had to defeat crippling insecurity and imposter syndrome. Sakura is a complex character dealing with difficult emotions. While she has a hard time competing against her fellow ninjas skill-level, Sakura is able to push herself to become one of the strongest in the village.

Born March 28, Sakura is canonically an Aries. On the surface, Sakura-deniers would definitely label her as volatile and aggressive, but Sakura-truthers know that she leans closer to a Gemini's traits.

Cancer (June 22–July 22): Gaara

Since the series relies on the power of friendship, hope, and personal sacrifice, there are a ton of characters across "Naruto" that could be deemed a water sign. Known to be highly emotional and prone to sensitivity, water signs typically get a bad rep when compared to more headstrong signs. While we can all appreciate someone that's in touch with their emotions, it can also hinder their own personal growth — which is why Gaara seems to be so much like a Cancer.

Just like his zodiac crab, Gaara lives his life in a shell — literally and physically. He's suspicious of others, no matter how trustworthy they may seem, letting his insecurity prevent him from making meaningful relationships. While he leans into the negative traits of the sign towards the beginning of the series, Naruto and his friends manage to chip away at his rough, pessimistic exterior. It's obvious that Gaara wants to be loved so much, and his unwavering loyalty to those around him proves how deeply he cares. He may live in the sand, but he's a water sign through and through.

Gaara's canon birthday is January 19, making him an Aquarius. While he might not be like other boys, he certainly acts more like a water sign than anything else.

Leo (July 23–August 22): Shikamaru

Leos are the kings of the zodiac, and they certainly know it. The fire sign approaches life with undeniable, infectious confidence — even if it might be a little undeserved. That's why Leos are so susceptible to falling into stubborn, inflexible, and downright lazy behaviors. Leos know they don't really have to work as hard as everyone else, just like everyone's favorite apathetic ninja, Shikamaru.

Often found tucked away napping in the corner of the village, Shikamaru exudes confidence. While he may be lazy or constantly complaining, no one ever doubts his ability to be one of the best ninjas on Team 10. Deemed a genius by his mentors, Shikamaru is able to outwit those around him both casually and in battle. His easygoing personality masks his ability to handle any situation. While he might not fit the mold when it comes to being the center of attention, Shikamaru's abilities demand respect and acknowledgment. Surrounded by the love of his friends, Shikamaru is known for being loyal and doing whatever he can to protect them.

Born September 22, Shikamaru is a Virgo, which also seems to be a fair placement. Driven by his incredibly strong analytical abilities, the shadow ninja exhibits some Virgo vibes. Still, he wouldn't be the same without his impenetrable confidence.

Virgo (August 23–September 22): Kakashi

Kakashi is the backbone of Team 7, but he's probably also the backbone of the entire Hidden Leaf Village. As the sixth Hokage, he's known to be analytical and hardworking. But these traits don't only make him a great ninja, they also make him a prime Virgo. Not only is he one of the strongest ninjas, he's also responsible for teaching and guiding the best team. The earth sign exhibits some of the best traits for an aspiring ninja, which might explain Kakashi's expedited success.

Just like so many other characters across the series, Kakashi had a tough childhood, but that motivated him to work harder. Although he's definitely more aloof and laid back than other earth signs, we know that Kakashi is paying attention to all the small details around him. Virgos exude confidence because they know the outcome of every situation, crafting the perfect mental state for a powerful ninja. Still, it's obvious that sometimes Kakashi manages to kick his feet up and enjoy one of his favorite x-rated romance novels, rather than focus on work all the time.

Born September 15th, Kakashi is canonically a Virgo — and the stars never lie.

Libra (September 23–October 23): Tsunade

"Naruto" may not have many strong female characters, but when it comes to Tsunade, there's literally no one stronger. The fifth Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village is known equally for her amazing skills in diplomacy and her ability to drink any man under the table. Just like a typical Libra, Tsunade balances each aspect of her impressive life. She doesn't let her social life get in the way of her responsibilities, but remains able to let loose and have fun.

Libras usually avoid conflict, which may not seem like Tsunade's style, but her ability to problem solve is definitely a Libra trait. Similarly, the air sign is known to gravitate towards partnership and companionship. That explains her longtime friendship with Shizune, and her ability to mentor the younger generation.

Tsunade's birthday is canonically August 2, making her a Leo. Leos and Libras have a lot in common, but Tsunade is an air sign.

Scorpio (October 24–November 21): Sasuke

Oh, Sasuke; everyone's favorite little emo runaway. If you were to look up Scorpio in the dictionary, there would be a picture of Sasuke Uchiha right next to it. Known for being powerful and passionate, Scorpios are the "deadly warrior" of the zodiac because they are fearless and unstoppable. Still, no matter how deadly he may seem, he still manages to attract all the girls in the village with his swooping hair and aloof style. Sasuke can't help but be magnetic to those around him — even Naruto himself.

Sasuke began his ninja training with one objective: To find his older brother and get his revenge. Just like the water sign, Sasuke is determined and resourceful. He's unwilling to let anything get in his way. While he may seem cool and calm on the outside, his passion makes him impulsive and manipulative. When he first leaves the village on his quest for revenge, it's obvious he's unprepared for the reality of his choices.

Born July 23, Sasuke is technically a Leo. Although he is a genius and protégé, it's obvious that he has some unstable water sign issues in there.

Sagittarius (November 22–December 21): Jiraiya

When people think about the Sagittarius sign, they likely do not associate it with a serious, composed ninja. Still, that doesn't mean the fun-loving fire sign can't rise to the very top. Known for being idealistic and enjoying the best parts of life, the Sagittarius is able to balance love for life with an ability to be grounded. Which is why Jiraiya, local pervert and Konohagakure ninja, is so obviously a Sag.

The things that bring Jiraiya joy are obvious: women, alcohol, and taking care of his village. Jiraiya knows how to get things done, but he also knows what he likes. He certainly didn't have to take Naruto under his wing, especially when he was so busy writing his rated-x romance novels, but he knew that he had to get serious for the sake of the village. Just like the fire sign, Jiraiya is a traveler of the world — literally and figuratively. No matter how undiplomatic he may seem, he's a cultured, incredible warrior.

Jiraiya's canonical birthday is November 11, which would make him a Scorpio. Although Scorpios are known to indulge themselves, they're also known to be cool and mysterious. So then, it's obvious that there's no chance his birthday is accurate.

Capricorn (December 22–January 19): Neji

When it comes to zodiac signs that would make the perfect ninja, look no further than a Capricorn. Known for being disciplined and serious, Capricorns have mastered the art of self-control, and no ninja understands that level of discipline quite like Neji. Just like his sister Hinata, Neji faced a hard childhood. But instead of crumbling under pressure, Neji internalized his family's expectations and excelled.

Acting as a leader for his team, Neji exhibits all the qualities of a typical Capricorn — good and bad. Although his rigid, hyper-focused attitude may help him with his ninja training, it prevented him from acknowledging any complex emotions. Despite how often he wanted to be condescending towards his peers, Neji always seemed to find himself violently jealous of Naruto's ability to balance work and fun. His pessimistic, fatalistic philosophies held him back, which only made him harder on himself. Just like most earth signs, Neji is stubborn and unwilling to change his opinions very often.

Born July 3, Neji is supposed to be a Cancer. Although he definitely has a hard outer exterior, it makes far more sense to think of him as a Capricorn — especially since it's hard to imagine him ever crying.

Aquarius (January 20–February 18): Shino

Shino isn't like other ninjas, and that's not necessarily a good thing. He certainly stands out in a crowd. While he may not be one of the series' main protagonists, he's certainly unforgettable — unless you're Naruto. Shino is obviously an Aquarius, and no one can tell us otherwise. Known for being independent, eccentric, and original, Aquarians are in a league all of their own.

From the very start, Shino was different than his peers. His fighting style, which involved controlling a breed of aggressive insects, isolated him and led others to think he was "creepy." But nevertheless, Shino managed to become a strong, competent fighter. His uniqueness never held him back and never prevented him from having friends. Still, although he cared about his teammates, the air sign simply needed to have some alone time. His signature aloofness just makes us want to know more. Just like so many Aquarians, Shino marched to the beat of his own drum, and it's hard not to love that for him — just from over there.

Born January 23, Shino is absolutely, unequivocally an Aquarius. You know it, and Masashi Kishimoto knows it.

Pisces (January 20–February 18): Hinata

Although Cancers can be a difficult water sign, Pisces are on a whole other level. Known to be gentle and loving, the sign is emotional and just straight up fearful, which doesn't make for great ninja training. Scared of her enemies, confrontation, and rejection from the love of her life, Hinata is undoubtedly a Pisces.

Just like so many others, Hinata's life begins with a difficult childhood. Rejected by her family, Hinata really only has the love of her friends and her love for Naruto to keep her going. While she might be known as a one-note character and simply a love interest, Hinata's character arc is based on deep emotion.

Sweet, shy Hinata struggles to compete with her peers due to her debilitating insecurity, made worse around Naruto. While she is gentle and kind, she gets so overwhelmed with emotion that she often faints at the sight of him. Pisces, known as the loving fish, base their identity on finding their soulmate. The two fish swimming together represent two individuals coming together, just like Naruto and Hinata. While it might not make for the strong female characters we want to see, Hinata's desire for love makes her strong in a different way.

Born December 27, Hinata is technically a Capricorn — but we know the truth.
