Matthew Gray Gubler's Favorite Moment From Criminal Minds

Matthew Gray Gubler made himself a second home as Spencer Reid on the CBS show "Criminal Minds." Appearing in every single season, Reid is one of the Behavioral Analysis Unit's more eccentric members, alongside Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), but where Garcia is outgoing and tech savvy, Reid is more introverted and has an innate suspicion of most technology. However, these attributes have endeared the character with fans of the series, and most people enjoy his general awkwardness and trademark style revolving around cardigans.

Having been on so many episodes of "Criminal Minds," Gubler has seen tons of different moments that range from shocking to absolutely heartwarming. The character was named the godfather to a co-worker's child, he contracts anthrax in one episode, and is kidnapped by cultists in another. Reid suffered immensely when Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin) left the BAU, and when Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster) faked her own death, but after all things are said and done, what moment on "Criminal Minds" was one of Gubler's favorites?

Matthew Gray Gubler's favorite scene involved a horrific puppet show

Speaking to the Facebook "Criminal Minds" fan club during a Q&A session, Gubler was asked about his favorite scene from the show, to which he replied, "My favorite scene is — I had once directed an episode about human marionettes and a deranged madman turning people into puppets. And I directed a scene with this, I think really beautiful, but very ghastly dance to a lullaby version of a Pixies song. And I'm really proud of that scene. It's definitely, I know we've never done anything like that on 'Criminal Minds.' I don't think anyone's done something like that before, so I'm proud of that."

The scene in question comes to us from Season 8, Episode 10, titled "The Lesson," which was written by Janine Sherman Barrois and Gubler and directed by him as well. The episode was absolutely grisly, and was kicked off by the discovery of two victims in coffin-like containers, which leads the team of the BAU to believe that the killer is one of the 'collector' types, or a killer with highly ritualistic and specific patterns of targeting and killing. By revealing that this was his favorite scene in the series, Gubler has shown an appreciation and fondness for the grim and macabre, which is a far cry from his on-screen character's demeanor.
