The Devil Inside Actor Evan Helmuth Dead At 40

Evan Helmuth, the actor who played a priest in the 2012 horror movie The Devil Inside, died Monday (July 17) of complications from a stroke, according to Deadline. He was 40.

An alumni of the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, Helmuth attended the USC School of Dramatic Arts where he met future TV writer-producer Josh Appelbaum. Helmuth later guest starred in an episode of Alias that Applebaum co-wrote.

He also played Jimmy Fallon's sidekick in the Farrelly Brothers' Fever Pitch and was in the 2013 Steve Jobs biopic Jobs starring Ashton Kutcher. In 2012, he played Father David Keane in William Brent Bell's The Devil Inside, and he made appearances on TV shows including NCIS, Bones, Rizzoli & Isles, and Battle Creek.

Applebaum spoke about his longtime friend on Wednesday. "Evan was the warmest, most generous soul imaginable," he said. "His passion for this industry was only outweighed by his passion for his friends. We met over 20 years ago at USC, where Evan was an instant lightning rod on the stage. He loved his craft, he loved entertaining audiences and he was as good as it gets at both."
