Will There Be An Archive 81 Season 2?

Contains spoilers for "Archive 81" Season 1

As great horror shows go, Rebecca Sonnenshine's "Archive 81" is on the wilder side of things. The Netflix show about Dan Turner (Mamodou Athie), a young conservator whose restoration job causes him to become entangled in a strange plot that involves a mysterious apartment building, a plucky investigator (Dina Shihabi), and a peculiar family connection ... and that's just the beginning of all the increasingly disturbing weirdness that unfolds across the show's eight episodes. Considering the place the first season leaves the plot, it's probably fair to say that fans of the show are hoping for a continuation of the story, preferably as soon as possible.

Before we proceed, a fair warning: As anyone who's seen the ending of "Archive 81" Season 1 can no doubt understand, any comments the makers of the show would make in regards to a possible Season 2 will no doubt contain a few spoilers for the first season. As such, if you're not up to date with the show yet, please be aware that we're about to discuss some of the key plot points of "Archive 81" so far.

With that caveat out of the way, let's find out when — and if — you can expect "Archive 81" Season 2.

Season 2 isn't confirmed yet, but the story is all figured out

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "Archive 81" showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine confirmed that while Season 2 of the show hasn't been greenlit quite yet, the show is all good to go when Netflix hopefully chooses to renew.

"I hope so, but I actually have no idea," Sonnenshine said when asked whether there are new episodes in the show's future. "But I hope so. It was always meant to keep going. We are always thinking about season 2."

Sonnenshine was also gracious enough to reveal just how much of the story the makers of the show have planned out, and by the looks of it, they have a whole bunch of excitement just waiting for the green light. She confirmed that Dan's indeed in 1994, and stated that the people behind her family's fate will be revealed in Season 2, should there ever be one.

"There are a lot of little Easter eggs or little things like that, that if you're like, 'I wonder if that's something that is part of the mythology and that will be explored further?'" she teased. "And, yes. Some things just didn't actually make it into the season. When you build a mythology series, you build out all this mythology, and then you're like, 'Oh, we don't have room for all that.'"

Fortunately, it appears that "Archive 81" is turning out to be a success story, so there's a decent chance that fans will see more of the show — and all those intricate plot points and mythology Sonnenshine teased — in the not-too-distant future.
