New Dark Tower Featurette Examines The History Of The Gunslinger

Nothing will stop Idris Elba in his mission to save the world in a new featurette for the upcoming epic The Dark Tower.

The movie stars Elba as Roland Deschain, the last in a long line of Gunslingers tasked with protecting the world from the coming of the dark. This conflict puts him at odds with the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), who is hell bent on toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle, as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.

"Roland Deschain comes from a sort of legacy of Gunslingers who were put in place to protect the Dark Tower from the Man in Black," Elba says of his character. "Roland is the last in that line." As Roland notes, the Tower protects the world from chaos and death and if it falls, hell will be unleashed on the earths.

"The Man in Black, the's the evil in this battle of good vs. evil," McConaughey says of his villainous turn. "I need to bring down the Tower. Roland is actually the only one that can bring me down." However, as the Man in Black notes, this won't be an easy task, as "death always wins."

Author Stephen King praised Elba's performance as Roland, saying that he always saw the Gunslinger as "a concentrated force." "The Dark Tower has always been really important to me, and to see the Gunslinger come to life on film with Idris Elba, it's really incredible," King said.

Tom Taylor, Katheryn Winnick, Abbey Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, Nicholas Hamilton, Claudia Kim, Fran Kranz, Alex McGregor, and Jose Zuniga also star in The Dark Tower, which was directed by Nikolaj Arcel based on a script from Arcel, Akiva Goldsman, Anders Thomas Jensen, and Jeff Pinkner. The movie is set for an Aug. 4 release; while we wait, see all of the movies that will blow you away in the coming months
