Blu Hunt Joins New Mutants As Danielle Moonstar

The New Mutants are officially all here. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blu Hunt has been cast as Danielle Moonstar in the upcoming X-Men film, filling out the movie's cast of young teens. Danielle, also known as Psyche and later Mirage, can give people visions of their greatest fears or desires.

The movie will find its mutants held in a secret facility against their will, where they must battle the dangers of their powers and the sins of their pasts to try and escape. The rest of the teen includes Maisie Williams' Rahne Sinclaire (aka Wolfbane), a mutant who struggles to find middle ground between her religious beliefs and her ability to turn into a wolf; Anya Taylor-Joy's Illyana Nikolievna Rasputina (aka Magik), a Russian teen who is also powerful young sorceress with the ability to use special discs to teleport; Charlie Heaton's Sam Guthrie (aka Cannonball), a teen with the ability to throw himself high in the air and become invincible while he does so; and Henry Zaga's Roberto "Bobby" da Costa (aka Sunspot), who can absorb and control solar power.

Rosario Dawson is also in talks to join the cast as Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a mutant with the ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself. Reyes will serve as a mentor for the new mutants, replacing James McAvoy's Professor X, who likely will not appear in the movie. The film will also include an alien named Warlock.

Hunt is relatively new to the acting scene, and was discovered after a casting search across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada to find a Native American actress for the role. (THR notes that Hunt is part Native American.) Her past credits include Girl on Girl, This Is It, and, most notably, a three episode guest stint on The CW's The Originals. Danielle is an important part of the film, as the storyline is rumored to follow the Demon Bear comic arc, in which the character plays a big role.

New Mutants has been described as an X-Men horror movie, with director Josh Boone saying that he wants to do something "very, very different" than what has been seen in past films in the franchise. Boone co-wrote the script for the film along with Knate Lee. The movie is set to start shooting in July ahead of a April 13, 2018 release date; while we wait, see some things you didn't know about the New Mutants.
