The Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Scene That People Think Went Too Far

If you're asking fans of the franchise, "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" is a film with its fair share of problems. As one popular post by a disappointed user on Quora details, fans took issue with everything from the inexplicable resurrection of Emperor Palpatine and his inconsistent abilities, to the sweeping of Finn, who was at one point a central character, under the rug. These issues were only exacerbated by the fact that "The Rise of Skywalker" was meant to be a film that served as the finale of a saga over 40 years in the making.

Among the disappointing aspects of the film is the fact that there are some scenes that should have been strong but feel as though the ball got dropped somewhere along the way. The climactic kiss between Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) is one of the worst examples of this. According to fans on Reddit, it's a moment that, in some regards, feels like a wasted opportunity and, in others, feels like it went too far.

Why the Reylo kiss makes fans upset

A big reason why fans were so disappointed by the "Reylo" kiss scene in "The Rise of Skywalker" is because they felt the third movie in the trilogy squandered the very real chemistry between the two characters that had been built up in the prior entries. The films had developed a tense, but affectionate, relationship between the two, one that was reinforced by their telepathic Force connection in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." By the time they finally locked lips, however, even Reylo stans were left disappointed. And to top it all off, some felt that Kylo Ren's quick death afterward was just too much.

"I am and always was a Reylo since TFA, cause I felt there was some chemistry, because I saw the redemption coming," wrote u/Kjhaal on Reddit. "I read, wrote and drew fanart and everything. In TROS I didn't feel any more of that, their connection was awkward, the kiss sudden and his death made their whole 'love story' they squeezed in completely useless."

"The fact [Kylo] dies immediately after she kisses him pisses me off to no end," wrote another Redditor, u/TheEffacIneffable, in the same thread. "What an unceremonious ending for him."

Between the lackluster execution of their romance and Kylo Ren's swift death, it appears that Reylo fans quickly became disenchanted with the couple. What could have been a compelling romance story between star-crossed lovers turned into an awkward, and often brute-forced, tragedy.
