5 More Characters Shaggy Needs To Fight In MultiVersus

No one quite knows exactly what kind of witchcraft causes a meme to come to life, although it frequently seems to be a combination of seemingly random iconic media fitting seamlessly into a genre where it shouldn't belong. Following this tradition, fans have wanted a fighting game featuring Shaggy from the "Scooby-Doo" franchise for a long time. Many dedicated fans have found ways to mod him into other games, and there was even a petition with over 300,000 signatures to make Shaggy a DLC character in "Mortal Kombat 11." As such, gamers were ecstatic when a rumor started circulating that a new fighting game would pit Shaggy against Batman. Now, that rumor has been confirmed.

"MultiVersus" appears to be a new "Smash Bros." clone that just confirmed our favorite scruffy investigator as one of its fighters. Not only is Shaggy a part of the lineup, but those who watch the showcase video for the game can also see him powering up into Ultra Instinct Shaggy. This is a super-powered version of the character based on a "Dragon Ball"-style power-up that only existed in memes at first. That is until it was made canon in the cartoon "Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms" in which you see the lovable teen detective throttling Scorpion through the WB logo. There are 13 amazing characters in the current "MultiVersus" roster, but do any of them stand a chance against the most powerful creature in the universe? Here are five more characters Shaggy needs to fight.

Ben 10

Ben Tennyson is the protagonist of the popular animated series "Ben 10." The kid might only be 10 years old, but his power level is nothing to sneeze at. See, Ben owns something called the Omnitrix, an alien weapon resembling a wristwatch that allows the young hero to transform into powerful aliens. He initially starts out with 10 species to choose from, but later learns that he can add new transformations to his roster by adding the DNA of new creatures. This ability has allowed Ben to become something of a meme in his own right as he could potentially acquire the power to transform into the most powerful beings in the universe, such as the Celestialsapien Alien X, who is omnipotent and can warp reality, time, and space.

Aside from having the ability to go head to head with a colossally powerful being like Shaggy, Ben would also be a tremendous addition to the "MultiVersus" lineup since he would be inherently fun to play as. It's probably too much to ask that he be able to turn into every alien in his roster, but a few quick transformation combos and a powerful alien finisher would definitely be fun.

Neo

If "MultiVersus" were to take the red pill, they could add the protagonist from one of the most iconic WB properties out there. Neo from "The Matrix" (Keanu Reeves) is another mega-powerful character who could make a great addition to the game, and now would be the perfect time to do it since the digital messiah will be making his return in the fourth film in the franchise, "The Matrix: Resurrections,"' which is set for release in time for Christmas. It might initially seem odd to add a live-action character to a game that primarily features animated ones, but Warner Bros. already opened that can of worms itself when it put Arya Stark from "Game of Thrones" on the roster.

Throughout the "Matrix" trilogy, Neo is shown doing kung fu, flying and stopping bullets with his mind. All of these seem like abilities that would translate well into a fighting game and could give Shaggy a serious run for his Scooby Snacks. There could also be some fun stuff where he hacks into the code of the game itself in order to change the rules in his own favor. He could even have a super move where he dives into an enemy's body, making them shatter like Agent Smith.

Dr. Manhattan

There are four different DC characters in the game so far: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Harley Quinn. No surprises there, as they are some of the most iconic and well-known characters in the world. There's another cast of super people in the DC multiverse, however. Alan Moore's seminal masterpiece "Watchmen" takes a hard look at what the world would look like if superheroes weren't paragons of justice, but rather were flawed human beings whose attempts to fix the world did as much harm as good.

Out of all of them, Dr. Manhattan is easily the most recognizable and powerful character. Dr. Jonathan Osterman was a nuclear physicist who was disintegrated and then reborn as Dr. Manhattan after accidentally being locked inside a test chamber designed to study the intrinsic fields that hold matter together. He gained complete awareness and control of subatomic particles, making him completely invulnerable to harm. He can teleport, change his size, replicate himself, move objects with his mind, shoot beams of destructive energy, phase through solid objects and even see through time. All of this makes him an ideal candidate to take on the internet's most powerful creation.

Nearly Headless Nick

"Harry Potter " is another massive IP that Warner Bros. owns the rights to. Dumbledore, Voldemort, and "the boy who lived" himself would all make tremendous additions to the roster, but there's another character who might have a better chance against Shaggy: Nearly Headless Nick. Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington famously got his nickname due to the fact that he was executed with a dull ax. As a result, his ghostly head is still attached by a few inches of ghostly neck.

There are certainly several fun mechanics that the developers could enact with Nick's incorporeal form, such as phasing through enemies and barriers and dropping things on them from above, but a big bonus would be if they could get the right voice actor. Gryffindor's house ghost was famously played by "Monty Python" star John Cleese in the films. Cleese has some experience with video game voice acting as well, since he played the butler Jasper in "Fable 3."

Nick might not be as powerful as some of the other characters on this list, but he might have a real shot against Shaggy. After all, if there's one thing we know he can't stand, it's a g-g-g-ghost!

Velma

Who could stand a better chance against the juggernaut of power that is Shaggy than someone from his own universe? Much like Lex Luthor's rivalry with Superman, Velma Dinkley might not have the brawn to take Shaggy on head-to-head, but everyone knows who the brains of the operation is. Most of the "Scooby-Doo" original TV series is based around investigating areas terrorized by supposed monsters, only to discover that the monsters are actually ordinary locals trying to scare people away for one reason or another. Velma is nearly always the one to crack the case with her powerful deductive skills.

It would be great if Velma could tangle other characters in one of her elaborate net traps, or if she had a special move where she drops her glasses, then uses her enemies' own momentum against them as they trip over her. There are any number of creative attacks she could use, but that isn't the true secret to her power. Ultra Instinct Shaggy is a being of nearly unlimited power. He only has one single weakness in all the world: Scooby Snacks. She who controls the Scooby Snacks controls all.
