Watch The 'Emotional' New War For The Planet Of The Apes TV Spot

The war between primates and mankind is heating up, and in the latest television spot for War for the Planet of the Apes, tension bubbles over.

20th Century Fox has released an all-new look at the Matt Reeves-directed flick, which follows the long-standing battle of man and ape. The clip highlights the strain between Caesar, immaculately brought to life by motion capture legend Andy Serkis, and Colonel McCullough, played by Woody Harrelson. Obsessed with the idea of killing Caesar and his tribe once and for all, the militant McCullough faces off against his simian foe in a verbal one-on-one.

"I did not start this war," Serkis' Caesar says in the TV spot. "But I will finish it." McCullough notes that Caesar's efforts are impressive, but he has taken things "much too personally." After a close-up on a fuming Caesar flashes on the screen, McCullough erupts and says that Caesar has blown the man-monkey conflict out of proportion. "So emotional!" Harrelson's McCullough yells in a moment of supreme irony.

Watch it all go down in the video above.

In the past, director Reeves has stated that War for the Planet of the Apes is heavily influenced by Bibical epics like Ben-Hur. He also mentioned that he views Caesar's personal journey, and the film as a whole, through a religious lens.

"I really felt like this movie had to have a Biblical aspect to it," Reeves said. "The movie is totally about [Caesar's] mythic ascension. The battle for his soul that cements his position as the key figure in early ape history. You can imagine the story of him would inspire religions." Rousing up new believers would require a lot of emotion, so maybe Harrelson's McCullough should ease up on Caesar's passion just a bit.

Here's the plot synopsis for War for the Planet of the Apes: "[In] the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet."

War for the Planet of the Apes is set for release on July 14. Until then, take a look at the other films that will blow everyone away this summer.
