Ron Perlman Comments On David Harbour As Hellboy

The transition of power will be anything but hellish.

Comic book artist Mike Mignola recently announced that his devilish hero Hellboy would be getting an all-new reboot, one that ditches former film director Guillermo del Toro, snags a mature R-rating, and replaces star Ron Perlman with Stranger Things actor David Harbour. While some fans weren't too pleased to learn that Harbour would be the new man behind the cigar-smoking, kitten-loving Hellboy, Perlman went on record to express his apparent satisfaction with the casting.

During an appearance at Motor City Comic Con, Perlman said (via ComicBook.com) that Harbour "is a good dude," and that he wishes him "nothing but the best when it comes to the retooling of Hellboy."

But Perlman's confidence in Harbour doesn't mean he's forgotten about the original franchise. The 67-year-old actor shifted the conversation to discuss where the Hellboy series could have gone had Hellboy III come to fruition. Earlier this year, del Toro confirmed that the sequel definitely wouldn't happen, and Perlman stated he still feels the sting. "The third [film] was meant to be epic and conclusive and a resolve for all these almost Greek oracle promises of the destiny of Hellboy," Perlman explained. "It would've made for a really good movie, I think." Perhaps the reboot will prove just as great.

Created by Mignola back in 1993, Hellboy pulled in a ton of attention in the comic book scene. As a demon captured by Nazi scientists, who's then saved by a group of allies and raised to work for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, Hellboy has a storied history that has kept readers returning time and again. The Hellboy comic series remains one of Dark Horse Comics' best-known publications to date.

Del Toro took on the very first Hellboy film in 2004, following it up four years later with Hellboy II: The Golden Army. While both flicks saw critical and commercial success, the latter installment had a tough time beating out Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, which opened less than a week after The Golden Army. With Perlman's stamp of approval, the Hellboy reboot could kick some major movie butt in the box office once it's released.

While we wait for more details on the upcoming Hellboy refresh, find out the real reason why Hellboy III was never made
