Tom Hanks Approves Of This Toy Story Fan Theory

Tom Hanks wants the fan theory about Jessie and Andy's mom to pop up in Toy Story 4. The star, who voices Woody in the Pixar films, called the theory "fantastic" and saying that he is "sure" the people at Pixar have heard about it.

The theory has to do with Andy's hat. Some astute viewers have noticed that the hat bears less of a resemblance to Woody's headgear and more of a resemblance to that of Jessie, just without the white lace around the brim. A little more digging shows that Jessie's previous owner, Emily, wore a similar hat in a flashback, complete with the white lace. As the theory goes, Emily, long after losing Jessie, grew up to be Andy's mom, and she passed down the older, more worn hat to her son.

Hanks was informed of the theory by The Huffington Post at an ACLU event earlier this year. "Sounds like a fantastic off-story, a little bit of fan knowledge to me," he said. "And I'm sure the folks at Pixar have paid attention to it. I'm not saying such a flashback might happen in the fourth movie, but check it out... Good idea."

Hanks' positive reaction to the fan theory is contrary to Toy Story writer Pete Docter's, with Docter previously telling Entertainment Tonight that he and director John Lasseter had their own backstory that's "a little different" from the fan theory. When asked if he would ever share the real backstory, Docter kept coy, saying, "The interesting thing is that now we're on Toy Story 4, and still stuff that we discussed in Toy Story, twenty-something years ago, those ideas are still being used. So it just seems to be a very evergreen kind of story and a lot of stuff just keeps bubbling up, so it's very interesting."

We're going to stick with Hanks on this theory and hope that fans dreams get confirmed in some Toy Story movie in the future. For now, though, prepare for your mind to be blown by reading up on some fan theories that will make you see your favorite movies very, very differently.
