The Character Everyone Forgets Sigourney Weaver Played In Cabin In The Woods

A household name since 1979, Sigourney Weaver is nothing if not prolific. Weaver became instantly recognizable straight out of the gate with her portrayal of Ripley. "Alien" made her one of the most recognizable faces in horror. Ripley's significance to the genre is beyond reproach, and that does not even cover her entire filmography. Her roles are varied and also have mass appeal. She has appeared in comedies such as "Ghostbusters" and "Galaxy Quest" as well as action blockbusters.

Weaver even dipped her toe in the ever expanding Marvel Universe. She played the main villain of Netflix's "The Defenders." Weaver was a brutal force to be reckoned with as Alexandra, the immortal force behind The Hand and the reason that Elektra was resurrected. Weaver is no stranger to heightened epics like a Marvel property. There is one role that may have skated by audience members' recollections. Before Chris Hemsworth took up the hammer as Thor, he appeared in a film with the famous actress that many may have forgotten.

The Director needs a sacrifice or two

"The Cabin In the Woods" is a play on horror genre tropes. A group of friends travel to the aforementioned cabin to have a good time. Unbeknownst to them, they are part of a larger plot. To stop the world from being destroyed by ancient beings, all the countries in the world must make ritual sacrifices in the form of horror tropes. Each friend at the cabin represents these well known tropes that were made famous by films like "Friday the 13th" and "Evil Dead." The Athlete (Hemsworth), The Virgin (Kristen Connolly), and The Scholar (Jesse Williams) are all tropes that are picked off one by one. By the end of the film, only The Virgin and The Fool (Fran Kranz) are left alive and come face to face with a representative.

Sigourney Weaver is the spokesperson for the company that tries to save the world by appeasing The Ancient Ones. Weaver is the face of villainy in the movie, known only as The Director and her main concern is to stop the Ancient Ones from rising. This character is an interesting flip on horror movies. Ultimately, The Director is trying to stop the world from ending, but because she is trying to kill the main characters, she has to be stopped. Though her role is minimal and she only appears at the end of the film, she has a horror movie pedigree. Sigourney Weaver brings meta humor to the film, making it even more enjoyable.
