Watch A Teaser For The New X-Men Series The Gifted
Marvel fans across the globe have been gifted (pun intended) with an exciting announcement from 20th Century Fox TV. Bryan Singer's once-untitled X-Men pilot has landed a series order.
Deadline reports that Fox has picked up the Marvel mutant drama series, officially titled The Gifted. The Singer-directed show is the network's first new series order of the 2017-2018 broadcast season.
Writer Matt Nix and X-Men director Singer take the reins for the upcoming series, which centers around an ordinary couple who learn that their children possess supernatural, mutant powers. In the past, Nix has described The Gifted as a series that follows "two human parents who discover their children [are] mutants, forcing them to run from a hostile government, and join with an underground network of mutants to survive" (via ScreenCrush).
In addition to the series order announcement, Fox also dropped a teaser trailer for The Gifted. Clocking in at a short but potent 22 seconds, the first look at the X-Men drama show features familiar faces from the Marvel comic book franchise, and highlights them learning to develop their newfound powers. One character states that though being a mutant can be a burden, it's also "a gift." Take a look in the video above.
The Gifted will star Jamie Chung (Gotham) as the teleporting mutant Clarice Fong (aka Blink), once played by Fan Bingbing in X-Men: Days of Future Past; Sean Teale (The CW's Reign) as new mutant Marcos Diaz (aka Eclipse); Blair Redford (Switched at Birth) as Native American leader Sam (aka Thunderbird); and Emma Dumont (NBC's Aquarius) as the magnetism manipulator, Lorna Dane (aka Polaris).
Joining the band of mutants for The Gifted are Stephen Moyer as Reed, an ambitious attorney; Amy Acker as Reed's wife; Natalie Alyn Lind as Lauren, Reed's daughter; and Percy Hynes White as the introverted loner, Andy. Coby Bell and John Proudstar will also star.
The Gifted will air alongside the DC Comics series Gotham, making Fox a unique network that houses properties from two of the biggest comic book companies in the world. Nix and Singer will executive produce the series, along with Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg, both of whom have worked in the X-Men movie franchise in the past. Marvel TV's Jim Chory and Jeph Loeb round out the executive producing bunch.
