Mother/Android Release Date, Cast, And Plot - What We Know So Far

As technology becomes an ever-increasing aspect of our lives, more movies and T.V. shows have begun to explore what this reliance means for the future of humanity. Most of the time, it's not a pretty picture. Killer robots and A.I. systems going rogue are par for the course, and even though those are farfetched prospects, it makes for exciting entertainment.

Soon to join the likes of "The Terminator" and "Ex Machina" is another science-fiction exercise in convincing people to throw away their Amazon Smart Homes — "Mother/Android." It depicts the struggle of several people who get caught in the midst of a long-running war between man and machine. The country has been overrun, but the core of the story is the belief that humans should maintain hope even in the darkest of times.

It's an exciting film you'll soon be able to watch from the comfort of your home. Here's everything you need to know about "Mother/Android" right now.

What's the release date for Mother/Android?

Production for "Mother/Android" got underway in September 2020 from first-time filmmaker Mattson Tomlin. While it was his first time directing, he had ample experience with screenwriting, providing the scripts for "Project Power" and "Little Fish." In March 2021, Deadline came out with a report indicating that Hulu had picked up the exclusive distribution rights for the sci-fi movie. Later, it came out that the film would be available to stream on the platform starting on December 17, 2021.

Tomlin was ecstatic to have the project land at the streamer, stating, "This film is a labor of love, and I couldn't be happier that in these extremely strange times, 'Mother/Android' will be handled by a partner who truly cares. I feel extremely lucky to have Hulu bringing the film to audiences later this year." You know where to be this December, as "Mother/Android" offers a different kind of holiday viewing experience this year.

Who's in the cast for Mother/Android?

An all-star cast has come together to bring "Mother/Android" to life. Starring in the lead role is Chloe Grace Moretz ("Kick-Ass," "Greta") as Georgia, a pregnant woman seeking shelter for her soon-to-be baby in the middle of an apocalyptic landscape. She has some help along the way as the father of the child, Sam, played by Algee Smith ("Detroit," "Judas and the Black Messiah"), is there for the treacherous ride. Rounding out the supporting cast is Raul Castillo ("Army of the Dead"), but there currently aren't any indicators of what the nature of his role will be.

What's the plot of Mother/Android?

"Mother/Android" sounds like a gripping tale and a worthy entry to the "killer A.I. uprising" sub-genre of science-fiction. The Hollywood Reporter lists the plot as follows: "Georgia, who, with her boyfriend Sam, goes on a treacherous journey to escape their country, which is caught in an unexpected war with artificial intelligence. Days away from the arrival of their first child, the couple must face No Man's Land — a stronghold of the android uprising, in hopes of reaching safety before Georgia [gives] birth."

While it sounds like a thrilling sci-fi tale, it's grounded in reality. THR goes on to report how writer/director Tomlin took inspiration for the story from his personal life. His birth parents sought to help their family escape the turmoil taking place during the Romanian Revolution. Like the best sci-fi stories, there are real-world connections to be made, so get ready for an emotional watch when "Mother/Android" drops on Hulu on December 17.
