Savitar Rips Apart The Team In The Flash Season 3 Sizzle Reel
Warning: This article contains spoilers for the already aired episodes of season three of The Flash.
Barry will have to become Savitar if he wants to defeat him. A new trailer for the remainder of season three of The Flash teases the lengths the hero will have to go to to stop Savitar from killing Iris now that he knows the villain's true identity.
The show revealed last week that Savitar was actually a version of Barry from the future, one who has been driven to evil by loss and loneliness. "He said it was like looking in the mirror," Barry says of their first meeting in the sizzle reel. "That power, that pain, that's where Savitar comes from. From loss."
EP Andrew Kreisberg previously teased that having Savitar be a future version of Barry would make the hero feel some sympathy for the villain, something which the trailer enforced. "You know what I saw when I looked into that man's eyes?" Joe says to him. "A deeply wounded soul. I saw the same thing in you the night your mother was killed."
Just because Barry understands Savitar doesn't mean that he won't go to whatever lengths he has to to take him down. The trailer begins with the dramatic moment the series has been building to all season, showing Savitar preparing to kill Iris. "I only need for Iris to die so that you are driven so far into the dark that I can be born," Savitar says.
Barry won't be without help in his fight, although his ragtag team definitely has some of their own issues to work through. The trailer shows Wally getting pummeled in a fight, before showing him in pain telling Barry, "You trusted me and I let you down." Meanwhile, H.R. is upset because he spilled a secret that got the rest of the team in trouble, and Cisco, who appears to be headed towards a fight with Killer Frost, realizes that everything is coming together "in the worst way." Wentworth Miller's Captain Cold also returns to the show in the trailer, giving Barry the helpful advice, "There are only four rules you have to remember: make the plan, execute the plan, expect the plan to go off the rails, throw away the plan."
The trailer includes a number of intriguing moments, including Iris appearing to have a bit of sympathy with Savitar, Savitar and Killer Frost having a possible loving interaction, and a tease of a big fight between Barry and Savitar. It ends on an image that should be haunting to fans of the show: Barry holding what appears to be Iris' dead body. "You kill me, you become me," Savitar says ominously. "You lose, Barry."
The Flash airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on The CW. While we wait for season three's epic conclusion, see how the cast should really look based on the comics.
