Mike Colter Teases Defenders Villains

The Defenders are all uniting this summer to fight against one common enemy, and star Luke Cage Mike Colter says that viewers will be surprised to see all of the connections between the series' villains and its heroes.

"The villains that we're dealing with are a combination of several entities, and they all have something to do with our separate stories that have been played out on each of our own individual series," Colter told TVGuide on the MTV Movie and TV Awards red carpet. "It wasn't obvious in each individual series, but in this series you'll find out that things that happened to all of us were basically all because of one entity, and that's what's gonna tie things together."

At the head of the season's pack of villains is Sigourney Weaver, who Colter says he has always been a big fan of. "When she came on set, she was lovely," he told ET Canada. "It's like the original kick-ass female to come about and be a part of our project and I was just really happy that she said yeah."

Colter says that the Defenders, despite their common enemy, will still have trouble teaming up, with each of the strong-willed heroes wanting to do things they're own way. "It's very difficult when you all have such strong, passionate viewpoints, to kind of reconcile and make sure that everybody's on the same page," he said. "It doesn't work that way, but we'll do the best we can."

The star believes that fans will love the series, which he says is "very binge-worthy." "You know, you never please everyone, but the direction we're going in is hopefully something [fans will] be pleased with," he said, adding that there is one particular fight between his character and someone else he won't name which he thinks comic book fans will be "really pleased" with.

The Defenders, which also stars Charlie Cox, Finn Jones, Krysten Ritter, Rosario Dawson, Simone Messick, Elodie Yung, Scott Glenn, Jessica Henwick, Rachael Taylor, Deborah Ann Woll, Carrie-Anne Moss, Elden Henson, and Eka Darville, will hit Netflix on August 18. While we wait, get some clues about what to expect by reading up on the superhero team's untold truth.
