The Visitor - What We Know So Far

Blumhouse has changed the face of horror in the 21st century for the better. The production company broke out in a big way with the "Paranormal Activity" series, and from there, it's produced some of the best horror flicks in recent memory, like "Insidious," "Get Out," and "The Invisible Man." The company has a little something for everyone regardless of how you like to enjoy media. Plenty of the studio's offerings come out in theaters, while smaller-scale projects go directly to streaming services like Hulu or Amazon Prime.

Now, Blumhouse is helping Epix with its horror selection with an exciting new project in development. "The Visitor" will be a TV movie that comes as part of a deal between Blumhouse and Epix to create eight standalone films together (via Deadline). It comes from a script written by Simon Boyes and Adam Mason and directed by Justin P. Lange. Here's what you need to know about the horror flick right now.

What's the release date for The Visitor?

The Deadline report doesn't mention anything about a release date. However, one would surmise it would come out in the foreseeable future with a 2022 window seeming most likely, especially given how the article mentions, "Production is underway in New Orleans." With the film currently shooting, it will likely wrap before the end of 2021, and given the nature of the film and how it's a horror property, we'd bet on an October 2022 release date, if anything.

"The Visitor" will be a reunion of sorts for many of those involved. Simon Boyes and Adam Mason, who wrote the script, also worked on the "Into the Dark" series on Hulu. McNamee also appeared on "Into the Dark" for the installment "I'm Just F***ing With You."

Who's in the cast for The Visitor?

The two biggest names associated with "The Visitor" are Finn Jones and Jessica McNamee, who will play the primary couple in the film. Jones is no stranger to high-profile projects. He was initially introduced to a broader audience with "Game of Thrones" before moving into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the lead character in "Iron Fist." McNamee has starred in plenty of films and TV shows in the past, most recently and notably in the role of Sonya Blade with 2021's "Mortal Kombat."

They'll be joined by Donna Biscoe, whose credits include "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1," "Hidden Figures," and "Night School." Dane Rhodes, best known for his work on "Creepshow" and "True Detective," will also have a role. No word on what the nature of their parts will be, but all good things in time.

What's the plot of The Visitor?

Jones and McNamee play a couple in "The Visitor," Robert and Maia, respectively. The couple experiences numerous tragedies in quick succession of one another, including the death of Maia's father. They leave their London home to go somewhere quainter, and that's when things take an odd turn.

As described in Deadline, "When Robert discovers an old portrait in the attic of a man who is his spitting image, he goes down a rabbit hole to discover the identity of this mysterious doppelganger known only as the visitor. It isn't long until he realizes — where the visitor goes, death follows."

It sounds like "The Picture of Dorian Gray" with a horror-infused twist. To figure out what exactly will happen with this story, you'll need to tune into Epix to see how it all plays out.
