The Handmaid's Tale Renewed For Season 2

Blessed be the fruit: more of The Handmaid's Tale is coming. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hulu has handed down an early renewal to the eerily timely series, which debuted last week to incredible critical acclaim.

Based on the Margaret Atwood novel of the same name, the drama stars Elisabeth Moss as Offred, a Handmaid in a near-future United States, which has devolved into the totalitarian Gilead. Offred and other women are given in service to Commanders, where their only responsibility is to bear children. The series, which also stars Alexis Bledel, Samira Wiley, O.T. Fagbenle, Max Minghella, Jordana Blake, Joseph Fiennes, and Yvonne Strahovski, was Hulu's most watched premiere ever, of both original and acquired series.

"The response we've seen to The Handmaid's Tale in just one week since its premiere has been absolutely incredible," Hulu head of content Craig Erwich said. "It has been an honor to work with this talented team of cast and creators to develop a series that has struck such a chord with audiences across the country. As we continue to expand our strong slate of original programming, The Handmaid's Tale is exactly the type of gripping and thought-provoking storytelling we want to bring to viewers. We can't wait to explore the world of Gilead and continue Margaret's vision with another season on Hulu."

Season two is set to debut at some point in 2018, while new season one episodes are still premiering on the streaming service on Wednesdays. If you've already binged your way through the series' early episodes, see the other TV shows that are going to blow you away this year.
