Chicago Party Aunt Season 2 - What We Know So Far

Netflix has expanded its impressive array of adult animated series with "Chicago Party Aunt," a tale about the adventures of a hard-partying Chicago woman, who indeed also happens to be an aunt. Inspired by the Twitter account @ChiPartyAunt, which now doubles as the show's official Twitter account, the series premiered on September 17, and fans of this love letter to Chicago have no doubt already watched — and, quite possibly, re-watched — the batch of eight episodes.

From the very beginning, "Chicago Party Aunt" makes it extremely clear that the adventures of Diane Dunbrowski have been going on for quite some time, perhaps a decade or two longer than they should have. However, that turns out to be the very point of the show, as years and years of revelry are slowly catching up on Diane, and her personal and professional life are in turmoil. It's interesting to see just how her life progresses as she still tries to hang on to what she perceives as past glories ... and in order to see more, another season is surely in order. Let's take a look at what we know about "Chicago Party Aunt" season 2 so far.

When is the release date of Chicago Party Aunt season 2?

The good news is that there are definitely more episodes of "Chicago Party Aunt" in the Netflix pipeline. The show's first season consists of eight episodes, and according to Variety, the streaming platform has placed an order for a total of 16 episodes, meaning there's a fair chance that the production of the second half of the order is already chugging away. This, in turn, means that "Chicago Party Aunt" season 2 seems all but certain ... though, of course, nothing's set in stone until Netflix actually drops the news.

As for when the show's sophomore season will air, that's anyone's guess — but since season 1 premiered on September 17, 2021, it'll probably take a while. The hit adult animated series "Big Mouth" is the product of the same animation studio as "Chicago Party Aunt," and apart from its season 3 "My Furry Valentine" special, the raunchy coming-of-age series has stuck to a fairly regular annual release schedule, give or take a few months. As such, you can probably expect "Chicago Party Aunt" season 2 sometime between September and December 2022. However, since the production is already underway, they could also drop a lot sooner. You just never know with Diane Dunbrowski!

Who's in the cast of Chicago Party Aunt season 2?

"Chicago Party Aunt" features a very nice batch of different characters, with lots of possibilities to shake things up should the show's season 2 feel like it. Since Netflix already ordered 16 episodes and season 1 only has eight, though, it makes sense to assume that the next eight episodes feature the same core cast.

The titular Party Aunt, Diane Dunbrowski, is obviously an instrumental part of the show, so expect Lauren Ash of "Superstore" fame to reprise the role in season 2. Rory O'Malley is also pretty much guaranteed to return as Diane's nephew, Daniel, and fans can likely expect to see Daniel's parents — Jill Talley's Bonnie and Ike Barinholtz's Mark – as well as Diane's ex-husband, Kurt (Chris Witaske), and their son, Mikey (Jon Barinholtz).

One element of Diane's life that fans definitely want to revisit in season 2 is her workplace, the Borough salon. RuPaul might very well be the season 1 MVP as the trendy manager Gideon, and the eccentric Zuzana (Katie Rich) and the grounded Tina (Da'Vine Joy Randolph) are both great characters with a lot of potential for future adventures.

What's the plot of Chicago Party Aunt season 2?

"Chicago Party Aunt" season 1 does a lot of world-building and introduces viewers to the main characters, their relationships to each other, and Diane Dunbrowski's conflicted nature as a middle-aged person who tries to cling to the hard-rocking, hard-partying days of her increasingly distant youth. The plots of individual episodes are many and varied, but the cost of Diane's lifestyle is evident from the very first episode, as is the fact that under her obsession with the various party opportunities and the cultural landscape of Chicago, she's a capable, warm-hearted person. By the time season 1 ends, the stage is clearly set for what might turn out to be a genuine story of personal growth — or at least a half-hearted attempt at it.

It's anyone's guess where "Chicago Party Aunt" season 2 will take Diane's story, but if season 1 is anything to go by, the many supportive characters around her will continue to contribute to her positive growth through many strange, wild stories and plot twists ... though don't expect her to drop the Chicago references and partying antics. They're in the show's title, after all.
