Injustice 2 Trailer Shows Off Darkseid's Power

Injustice 2 is loading up on the villains. First, Brainiac made his big debut. Next, some leaked videos revealed Injustice 2's all-new Joker. Now, a brand new trailer highlights the master of Apokolips, Darkseid, who's been teased for months as an Injustice 2 pre-order bonus.

Judging by the video, Darkseid is full of swagger and should push DC's toughest heroes to their limits. Not only does Darkseid fight with one hand behind his back, which is about as cocky as you can get, but he also makes liberal use of his lethal Omega Beams to blast enemies from a distance, uses Boom Tubes to attack opponents from behind (or in outer space), and can summon his Parademon soldiers to help turn the tide of battle.

It's not clear if or how Darkseid will contribute to Injustice 2's storyline, in which the freedom fighter Batman must team up with the former dictator Superman in order to stop Brainiac from destroying the Earth. Darkseid appeared twice in the Injustice spin-off comic, sending his son Kalibak to Earth to challenge Superman, and later hiring the interstellar bounty hunter Lobo to kill the Man of Steel and avenge Kalibak's death. Darkseid also appeared as part of a special attack in the first Injustice game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, although that was more of a cameo and didn't contribute to the game's plot.

Injustice 2 is a DC Comics-themed fighting game produced by NetherRealm Studios, the same company behind the modern installments in the Mortal Kombat franchise. The game comes out on May 16, 2017 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Meanwhile, Darkseid is poised to play a big role in the ever-growing DC Extended Universe—Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was full of references to the New God, while one of his lieutenants, Steppenwolf, has been confirmed as Justice League's big bad. If you want to know more about Darkseid, be sure to check out his weird comic book history. Trust us, it's a doozy.
