The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus Dishes On The Ending He Wants For Daryl

Ever since "The Walking Dead" premiered back in 2010, people have thought about how the show might end. Imagining where characters would end up or how they would die has been a pastime of every "Walking Dead" fan, and the actors playing the characters have been asked about it ad infinitum. But now that "The Walking Dead" is in its final season, picturing the ending has become a lot less hypothetical. Now series star Norman Reedus is giving a more serious answer to the question than the one he used to give about Daryl walking off into the woods with a wolf puppy by his side (via TV Web).

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Reedus, who has played gruff and growling survivor Daryl Dixon since the show's third episode, opened up about the ending he wants for Daryl, whenever that day comes. Reedus' ending notably does not involve an exciting death with Daryl going out in a blaze of glory. Instead, Reedus has described a desire for the peace and calmness that has eluded Daryl his whole life, even before the zombie apocalypse. Here is the ending that Norman Reedus wants for Daryl Dixon.

Daryl Dixon needs to relax

Reedus explained that Daryl has always put other people's needs before his own. He's always taking care of someone, whether it's his brother Merle (Michael Rooker) or a wayward kid like Lydia (Cassady McClincy), and Reedus would like for him to be able to relax and not feel like he has to take care of everyone else all the time. "I want him to be comfortable in his own skin," Reedus told Entertainment Weekly. "Maybe someplace where he doesn't have to do that over and over again."

"It's just like to take a breath, to take a big long nap, to look around and see everything's going to be okay," Reedus added. "I think that would be a nice place for him to be in."

Of course, it will be a while before Daryl's story is truly done, as he and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) are getting their own spinoff after "The Walking Dead" is done. In Season 10, Daryl dropped a hint that the two of them would be riding off to New Mexico at some point in the future. Maybe Daryl will finally find some peace out in the desert.
