Spider-Man: Homecoming Won't Include Daily Bugle
As we near the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, new details on characters, plot points, and even costume designs have rolled out at an increasingly quick pace. While most updates have focused on what will be included in the upcoming iteration of the web-slinging superhero, the latest news centers around what's left out.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, producer Eric Hauserman Carroll confirmed that one particular Spider-Man staple won't be seen in Homecoming: the Daily Bugle. A trademark institution in the Spider-Man universe, The Daily Bugle brought in Peter Parker himself as a photographer tasked with snapping shots of the city-saving hero. The newspaper company even inspired an internet meme featuring the loud-mouthed editor J. Jonah Jameson.
But to the minds behind Spider-Man: Homecoming, a newspaper setting simply didn't feel modern enough. It appears the focus of the Tom Holland-led film is Peter's current ambitions. Carroll mentioned the newspaper is an aspect that may be explored later down the road, if at all.
"We toyed with it for a while, but again, we didn't want to go down that road right away, and if we do do a Daily Bugle, we want to do it in a way that feels contemporary," explained Carroll. "Working in a newspaper while fighting crime and overachieving, it just felt like one of those things where like... maybe it's in his future? Maybe it's what he does in college or something like that. But for now, no."
Though fans won't see the New York City tabloid or witness Jameson demand more photos of Spider-Man in Homecoming, there's still plenty to look forward to. From a freshly designed (Tony Stark-inspired) suit that features Spidey's very own JARVIS to an extra-special Defenders easter egg, it seems the film will be filled with enough goodies to satisfy any superhero fan.
Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters on July 7. In the meantime, brush up on your Spidey history and discover facts about the hero you may not know.
