Fire Emblem Heroes Celebrates Spring With Easter-Themed Costumes

Sure, a compelling and well-executed strategy game might drive Nintendo's latest mobile endeavor, Fire Emblem Heroes, but let's be honest: what everyone really cares about is the game's cast of characters. It's the slot-machine-like character draws that keep Fire Emblem Heroes players coming back for more, stringing fans along as they try to score the best (or favorite) characters from 27 years of Fire Emblem games.

Previously, a single character could come in a number of different models—some strong, some weak—but at least they all looked the same. That's no longer true. In the Fire Emblem Heroes "Spring Festival" event, players will be able to score special versions of Chrom, Lucina, Camilla, and newcomer Xander, all of whom are dressed up in special outfits.

Oh, and by the way, these special Easter-inspired costumes are ridiculous. All four characters wear rabbit ears in addition to their brightly colored spring attire. Lucina and Camilla hold eggs instead of a sword and an axe, respectively. Xander wields a giant carrot. Look at it. It is insane.

In addition to the special costumes, the Spring Festival will also introduce a special set of Paralogue missions, which should be an easy way to earn a few orbs. You'll need those if you want to try to get these exclusive costumes through Fire Emblem Heroes' random character draw (although, as always, you can also buy orbs for real-life money). Just be quick about it—purportedly, the Spring Festival character variants will only be available during the event itself, which runs from March 30 through April 13.

Fire Emblem Heroes is Nintendo's most successful solo venture into the mobile marketplace yet, earning $2.9 million on its first day and surpassing Super Mario Run and Miitomo in terms of revenue earned. That's good, too—while a new Fire Emblem game is coming out on the 3DS later this year, many fans are waiting for the franchise's first Switch entry, which should be one of the biggest games of 2018. It's up to Fire Emblem Heroes to keep fans busy until then.
