Check Out The First Five Minutes Of Ghost In The Shell
We've seen the teaser, we've seen the trailers, and we've even gotten a glimpse of Scarlett Johansson kicking the crap out of some unlucky bad guy. But now, we're finally getting our first decent look at the glorious world of Ghost in the Shell. The folks at Paramount recently released about five minutes worth of gunfights and creepy geisha robots via Twitter, and while this Rupert Sanders sci-fi flick has faced a lot of criticism over the past year, we've got to admit this scene looks pretty incredible.
The visuals are truly breathtaking (just look at that crazy cityscape), and this feels like a truly fleshed-out world. Plus, we've got nothing but praise for Clint Mansell's cyber-score. But most importantly, we get to see the Major's firearm skills in action, as she throws down with a gang of machine gun-wielding thugs. We'll take more of that, please.
For those just learning about this upcoming blockbuster, Ghost in the Shell is based on a Japanese media franchise that includes a manga series, a couple of TV shows, and a 1995 film directed by Mamoru Oshii. Fortunately, it seems like the new movie might just hold its own against the original, assuming the rest of the film is comparable to the first five minutes. Will Scarlett Johansson's Major live up to all the hype? We'll learn soon enough, as Ghost in the Shell hits theaters on March 31. Of course, if you're still feeling skeptical about a live-action adaptation of an anime classic, perhaps you should take a look at all the reasons why this remake will be better than you think.
