Mulan Remake Reportedly Won't Include Any Songs

Looks like we won't be making men out of anyone, or finding out when our reflection will show who we are inside, any time soon.

In an interview with Moviefone, Niki Caro, the director helming the refreshed Mulan film, admitted that, to her knowledge, the film won't include any of the songs that appeared in the animated classic.

Moviefone journalist Drew Taylor brought up the point, looking for confirmation that there will be no songs in the live-action adaptation. Caro replied: "From what I understand, no songs right now, much to the horror of my children."

The timing of Caro's statement is quite interesting, as the live-action Beauty and the Beast opened this weekend and has been smashing the box office. The Emma Watson and Dan Stevens-led flick features all the songs from the 1991 animated Disney movie, along with a handful of new tunes specially written for the reboot.

Though the Mulan remake may not include songs from the original, it will have a pretty interesting core theme and feel. Caro delved into her ideas for the flick's overall vision: "It's a big, girly martial arts epic. It will be extremely muscular and thrilling and entertaining and moving." Perhaps this will be enough to appease those who've already begun worrying about what a songless Mulan could mean for commercial and critical success.

Mulan is set to hit theaters, with or without songs, on November 2, 2018—alongside a number of other films that will blow everyone away next year.
