Frank Oz Comments On Yoda's Role In Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Frank Oz is keeping mum on rumors that Yoda will appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In an interview with Variety, the actor, who voiced the character in the original Star Wars films and in the prequel movies, said that he would love to talk about the character, but he's been sworn to secrecy.
"I feel like I'm a prisoner at war here, and I can only give you my name, rank and serial number," he said. "To be true to the people who asked me, and they are kind of my family, I have to say I've been asked not to talk about it. I love Yoda. I would be happy to talk to you about it at the time they let me."
Oz said that he hasn't found the time yet to watch Rogue One, but he has seen The Force Awakens (which he had a small voice cameo in), saying that writer/director J.J. Abrams did a "great job" of transitioning to new Star Wars movies while still honoring the old films. "It's different from the way that George Lucas would have done it," he said. "George would probably have had a more overall arc that would follow the other stories and have a moral depth. But, my gosh, what J.J. did was really entertaining. It was so much fun."
With Oz giving a positive opinion of the newer entries into the Star Wars universe and with Yoda's importance to the franchise, it's quite possible that there could be a secret appearance for the character in The Last Jedi. However, it looks like Oz isn't planning on confirming anything anytime soon, so we'll just have to wait until the film is released on Dec. 15 to find out for sure.
