Dr Disrespect, a.k.a. Guy Beahm, has toyed with the idea of developing his own game before. Now, he's finally bringing that vision to life. The Doc recently announced the start of his new gaming studio and its search for management. This unnamed studio will develop an unspecified game, presumably some iteration of the "vertical battle royale" concept that Dr Disrespect has teased in the past.
The Two Time Champion's announcement on Twitter, along with an accompanying job listing on his website, lays out his partnership with BoomTV and their plans to create "a AA/AAA gaming studio" — a high mark to reach. However, the Doc's professional background in game design and recent work designing a map for "Rogue Company" suggest that he has the potential to develop a game that can challenge the likes of "Call of Duty" and "Apex Legends."
Given the studio isn't fully established yet, the Doc's battle royale game likely hasn't progressed beyond the earliest talks and pre-production. Of course, this hasn't has stopped fans from speculating about the upcoming title as the studio hunts for talent. Here are just a few of the unanswered questions about the Doc's mysterious new battle royale game.
What will the maps look like and how do they work?
The Doc has already revealed a few things about his "Vertical BR." As the working title would imply, the game is a vertical battle royale, meaning the fight escalates up series of floors, instead of across fields. In other words, the layout for Doc's game makes it more like a battle tower than a battlefield. Dr Disrespect also pitched the idea of a fire that started at the bottom of the building and spread upwards as players fought, ascended, and escaped through various exits.
He showcased concept art for two sectors within a larger building. One sector looked like a steaming-hot machine room, and the other looked like a cloud-covered rooftop. They were labeled "Sector 3 Wingsuit Platform Extraction" and "Sector 5 Machinery Floor," so it's likely that even more sector numbers will fill the gaps around these numbers. It's unclear how many sectors and floors will be available and what the theme of the overall building is, though. Perhaps each floor will have a different theme, adding to the chaos and the overall challenge of the escape.
When the Doc revealed the contents of his "Game Idea" folder to his fans, he explained that it would be "the last sneak peek" they would be getting for his vertical battle royale. The final product will most likely resemble the concept art that he shared with his audience, but it's too soon to tell.
What weapons and customization options are in the game?
Dr Disrespect hasn't gone in-depth on what kind of weapons to expect in his game. Most shooters include assault rifles, sniper rifles, shotguns, and pistols as a baseline. The Doc originally compared the idea for his battle royale to the "Rainbow Six" series, so there's a good chance it will be a first-person shooter with many kinds of guns and explosives.
