Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 First Full Trailer Revealed

Welcome back, you bunch of galaxy-rescuing a-holes.

Marvel Studios just unveiled the first full trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, bringing back the misfit gang of superheroes as they trek through space to save the entire universe from impending doom. Our central crew of interstellar crime-fighters return: Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), and Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) are all accounted for, and go head-to-head with some fresh faces, including that of one very special guy: Star-Lord's dear old dad.

Take a look for yourself in the video above.

The groovin' and shakin' new trailer was shown off tonight, February 28, during Late Night with Jimmy Kimmel, and for those of us night owls who stayed up to catch it in real time, it was well worth the sleep-deprived eye strain. Chris Pratt joined the talk show comedian to reveal the GoTG Vol. 2 trailer to the audience, whose anticipation was practically palpable through the television screen, and to fans worldwide. What unfolds inside it is a ton of high-adrenaline action and an adorable core theme.

The new kids on the intergalactic block joining the Guardians are Yondu (Michael Rooker), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and Mantis (Pom Klementieff). But another same-but-different face will be popping up on the big screen for the first time in Vol. 2: Baby Groot. Alongside these debut characters comes the aforementioned father figure, Ego the Living Planet.

Following sizzling shots of space travel set to songs off the film's now-trademark 1970s rock-funk soundtrack and the promise that the gang will be "two-time galaxy savers," fans get their first real look at Star-Lord's father, an actual planet played by Kurt Russell. While the first Guardians of the Galaxy dug deep into Peter Quill's biological ties and mixed-up past, the sequel seems to guarantee things will get even messier—but that just means more questions will be answered along the way.

Thankfully for us Guardians fans out there, this first official trailer for Vol. 2 seems to bring back that unique mix of heart and humor found in the original installment and incorporates new, fresh elements this time around. Color us (and many, many others) excited.

Director James Gunn also shared the official poster for the flick. Check it out below. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit theaters on May 5. In the meantime, after you watch (and rewatch... and rewatch just one more time) the trailer, brush up on the Guardians of the Galaxy facts you may not know. Who knows, they may come in handy when you head out to see the sequel this summer!
