Fox Renews Lucifer For Season Three

The devil is staying at Fox.

Variety reports that the network announced a season three renewal Monday for the police procedural Lucifer, based on the DC Comics series of the same name. The show will return for the back half of its second season at 9 p.m. on May 1, right after the season three mid-season premiere of Gotham.

The show stars Tom Ellis as the title character, who retires from Hell and moves to Los Angeles, where he works double duty as a nightclub owner and a consultant for the Los Angeles Police Department. The show also stars Lauren German, Tricia Helfer, D.B. Woodside, Rachael Harris, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Aimee Garcia, and Scarlett Estevez.

"Lucifer is one of those rare shows that starts strong out of the gate, and just keeps getting better and better," said Fox Broadcasting entertainment president David Madden. "Tom, Lauren and the entire cast have really made these characters three-dimensional, and the production team— Jerry [Bruckheimer, executive producer], Len [Wiseman, director and executive producer], Jonathan [Littman, executive producer], Joe [Henderson, executive producer], and Ildy [Modrovich, executive producer]— is one of the best in the business. We'd also like to thank our partners Warner Bros. for their commitment to this show and we look forward to seeing where this wildly innovative series takes us in season three."

This is just the third renewal that Fox has handed down so far this season. Empire and The Simpsons are also set to return.
