Street Fighter V Introduces New Character Kolin

There's a new kid on the block... er, street... and her name's Kolin.

Capcom, the developer of the (literally) punchy fighting game, unveiled the latest challenger hitting Street Fighter V. The ice-flinging, rekka-like fighter Kolin (pronounced just like "Colleen") made her debut as a non-playable character in 1997's Street Fighter III: New Generation, but today, she's been officially upgraded to full-fledged fighter. She will join Street Fighter V as downloadable content on February 28, 2017.

Street Fighter V fans can get their first look at the blonde-haired badass in a character reveal trailer posted on the Street Fighter series' YouTube page. Set to Lupe Fiasco's "It's Not Design," the sneak peek shows off Kolin's expert skills as she battles against the game's other fighters.

In a post on Capcom's official blog, more details about Kolin are revealed. Also known as the Phantasm of Snow and Ice, Kolin "excels in the Russian martial art of Systema, utilizing the opponent's momentum against them and executing various slash-like attacks and knife hand strikes." She serves under the split-dyed antagonist from Street Fighter III, Gill, and can easily dodge attacks with her high-powered icicles, which she throws with brutal force.

Capcom laid out Kolin's abilities in detail:

• V-Skill: Inside Slash — Kolin's unique counter allows her to deflect and automatically punish incoming moves with ease.

• V-Trigger: Diamond Dust — With a full V-meter, Kolin can slam the ground twice with her foot, each time shooting out a path of sharp icicles across the floor. In addition to damage and stun, this move freezes the opponent's stun gauge. While in this special state, the stun gauge will not deplete and if Kolin is successful in stunning the opponent, they will be frozen in place.

• Critical Art: Frost Tower — Kolin dashes forward with a slice of her hand. If the attack connects, she'll continue summoning large icicles from the ground, throwing the opponent into the air and shattering the ice to drop them to the ground.

Included in the downloadable content are Kolin's nostalgia costumes, premium battle, story. Street Fighter V players can access Kolin through the game's season 2 Character Pass. She joins Akuma, the first fighter available in season 2. With the Character Pass, fans can expect to receive four more fighters, new character colors, and additional battle costumes.
