The Simpsons Meets Star Wars In Adorable New Disney+ Short

Ever since Disney acquired the 20th Century Fox Company back in 2019 for a cool $71.3 billion, it's been able to leverage all the associated properties that used to be exclusive to that brand, including "Avatar," the X-Men side of the Marvel universe (including Deadpool) and of course, "The Simpsons." The irreverent cartoon series has been running for over 30 years, 32 seasons, and over 700 episodes, making it one of the longest-running cartoons of all time, and Disney's ownership of the franchise hasn't yet changed its trajectory to stay on the air for many more years to come.

For "May the Fourth" day, an annual celebration of Star Wars in a playful nod to how the date sounds like the franchise's iconic "May the Force be with you" line, Disney is most notably premiering "The Bad Batch" on Disney+, a new spin-off series to the long-lived animated series, "The Clone Wars." However, there's another, lighter way to celebrate the franchise with a special short crossover episode between "Star Wars" and "The Simpsons," cutely titled "The Force Awakens From a Nap."

Maggie Simpson navigates a comically child-unfriendly daycare in the latest Star Wars-themed short

Maggie Simpson, who remains an infant despite being on the show for over 30 years, stars in the three-minute Disney+ short, where her mother Lisa has dropped her off at "Jabba's Hut Jedi Preschool" after Maggie refuses to go to her usual daycare of Ayn Rand School for Tots.

Completely devoid of any voice acting and filled with iconic music from the films' scores by John Williams, Maggie loses her pacifier and befriends the droid BB-8 in order to get it back. Once she does, her arch-nemesis Gerald Sampson appears as a spoof on Darth Maul, who attacks Maggie with a lightsaber as Maggie fights back by using her own pacifier as one, which is somehow able to deflect attacks from lightsabers? It's better not to question the logic here.

In true Simpsons fashion, it's not at all serious and has some fun jabs at its parent company's use of the property, but it's all in good fun and is sure to bring some smiles, if not laughs. "Maggie Simpson in 'The Force Awakens from Its Nap'" is available now to stream exclusively on Disney+.
