Ghostwriter Season 3 - What We Know So Far

The Apple TV+ show, Ghostwriter, first premiered in November 2019 and has two seasons out so far. It's a reboot of a 1990s' children's show of the same name, which was designed to teach kids to read and write via the clues presented in the episodes' mystery cases. A group of friends solved these mysteries with the help of an invisible ghost, named Ghostwriter.

The rebooted Ghostwriter, written and directed by Luke Matheny, has an updated plot: a ghost begins haunting a neighborhood bookstore and releases fictional characters into the real world. Four kids then find themselves teaming up to solve the mystery surrounding the bookstore ghost.

It was immediately well-received, even garnering several Daytime Emmy Award nominations and winning the Emmy for Outstanding Children's or Family Viewing Program. The successful show's second season came out in October 2020. For those wondering if and when there will be another season of Ghostwriter, here's what we know so far.

When will Ghostwriter season 3 be released?

As of now, there is no news on if the show has been renewed for a third season. However, it looks as though there are still more episodes of season 2 to be released. According to both NextSeasonTV and IMDb, season 2 has a second half that will be out sometime this year. The first season was also split into two parts, with the first half airing in November 2019 and the second half airing in May 2020 — that's a total of five months in between. Going off of that, that would mean the second half of the second season should air in May. But, with the pandemic pushing back so many shows' and films' production schedules, it's possible that Ghostwriter will be pushed off track as well.

But, the good news is that there are plenty of ideas for a third season behind the scenes. Before the premiere of season 2, the creator, Luke Matheny, gave an interview with Hidden Remote, during which he was asked if they were discussing season 3. "There was lots of talk, but [the world] fell apart. So, we'll see where we land when the world sorts itself out," Matheny responded.

At least we know that the creator and those involved have their sights set on continuing beyond the upcoming second half of season 2.

Who will be in Ghostwriter season 3?

Without a confirmed season 3, we can't know for sure what exactly the cast will look like. However, it's extremely likely that the main kids, of seasons 1 and 2, will return if there's a third season. The main group of four kids include Ruben Reyna (Isaac Arellanes), Chevon Redmond (Amadi Chapata), Donna Palmer-Moreno (Hannah Levinson) and Curtis Palmer-Moreno (Justin Sanchez). Each of these cast members have appeared in all 20 aired episodes and are set to appear in the next six that are yet to be released.

The only other cast member who has 26 episode credits is Jay Santiago, who plays Ernesto Reyna, the grandfather of Ruben. Other notable cast members include Nicola Correia-Damude, who plays Amy Reyna, and Michael Brown, who plays Mr. Saunders. It is unclear if these cast members will return for a third season, although it can be considered likely given their prominent roles.

What will Ghostwriter season 3 be about?

There is currently no information about any storylines that could arise in season 3 — the writers likely want to keep that to themselves until they get a renewal.

The first season saw the kids get introduced to the actions of the mysterious ghosts and begin to figure out that the ghost is releasing fictional characters into their world. The first of these fictional characters that they encountered were those from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, including Alice, the Mad Hatter, and the rabbit. Throughout the series, they interact with characters from stories such as The Jungle Book and Frankenstein, amongst others. The second season picks up where the first season leaves off, with the kids still working to figure out the secrets behind the mystery ghost. In this season, they face characters from works such as Crimson Mask and Sherlock Holmes.

Season 3 storylines are pretty out of reach as of now, seeing as the rest of season 2 has yet to come to fruition. Still, fans of the show likely have books they want to show up in season 3 and can have fun speculating while they wait for more episodes.
